Established in 2011, the Panigale family was named after the small manufacturing town of Borgo Panigale and manufactured as various types of sports motorcycles. All models in this series use a monocoque frame replacing Ducati’s conventional trellis frame.
In 2015, the new 1199 Panigale R made its way to the spotlights. It uses the 1198cc Superquadro Desmodromic liquid-cooled engine that can deliver to the back wheel an asphalt-wrinkling 205 hp at 11,500 rpm and 136 Nm (100 lb-ft) of torque, all thanks to the six-speed DSQ gearbox.
The monocoque frame uses the engine as a stressed member to lose weight and become more rigid. For suspension, it uses Ohlins NIX30 43 mm with a fully adjustable USD fork on the front and a fully adjustable Ohlins TTX36 unit on the rear.
In braking terms, the 1199 Panigale R uses two 330 mm Brembo semi-floating discs on the front and one 245 mm disc on the back, with cornering ABS included in the calipers.
Responsible for grip are the Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP tires mounted on 3-spoked W-shaped forged aluminum wheels.
A weight reduction was achieved using the monocoque chassis, carbon fiber parts, titanium exhaust system, and a lithium-ion battery, which saved up to 2 kg (4.4 lbs), reaching a dry weight of 162 kg (357 lbs).
The 2015 Ducati 1199 Panigale R was for sale in 2022 starting from $18,000.
