A Chrysler PT Cruiser Monster Truck Called 'PT Bruiser' Is for Sale Right Now and It's Amazing-July 2024

For some reason, the world likes to give the Once Hot-Selling a lot of shit, but I for one am a fan of its daring, 1920s hot rod-ish design. So it should be no surprise that I’m borderline obsessed with this lifted one for sale right now on Facebook Marketplace. It is truly bonkers.

I’ve got a Facebook group-message still going with my college friends who were part of my car club at UVA back in the 2010-2013 era. Recently, one of the members in that group-message popped in a to this incredible machine: a jacked-up PT Cruiser for sale just east of Richmond, Virginia for $4,800. The seller’s description reads:

PT BRUISER. Built 340 automatic transmission with divorced tc. 44” boggers on 18” deep bud aluminum wheels. Hydro steering. Mud truck only not street legal located in new Kent price is obo or trade. Mopar power house

I’ll translate that for those of you who don’t speak “off-roader.” The PT Bruiser has a strengthened engine under the hood mated to an automatic transmission and a divorced transfer case (i.e. it’s not bolted to the transmission, it’s connected via a driveshaft). The steering is a hydraulic setup (possibly a common on modified off-road vehicles), and though this sucker isn’t street legal, it’s definitely an off-road beast with 44-inch mud tires on 18-inch aluminum wheels.

I’m exactly sure which truck platform is under this unibody wagon, and really, there’s not a whole lot I can learn from looking at these pictures other than the fact that the suspension is just two leaf-sprung solid axles.

That’s because it’s a bit hard to see the underbelly, since the owner apparently went through some serious trouble trying to hide all the mechanical bits with what looks like, from the sides, diamond plating that’s been spray-painted black. In the front, shown above, there appears to be some black plastic hiding the hardware.

If you want to hear this thing run, check out the video in the comments of the . It sounds burbly and nice.

The transfer case hangs a bit low for my tastes, and $4,800 isn’t cheap, but my god would this thing turn heads in Moab.

The KTM X-Bow Comp R Is Much More Than Just a Toy
“What is it again that you’re driving?” my mom asked over the phone, after I said I’d be going to Sonoma Raceway in California for a track day the next week. “A ?” For the first of many times that week, I reminded her that it was the KTM X-Bow...

At $5,950, Could This Manual-Equipped 2008 BMW X3 Get You X-cited?
BMW’s X3 was the company’s second shot at the burgeoning crossover market, and was a pretty successful sophomore effort. Today’s X3 comes with a rare manual gearbox, but could that make you take a second glance at its price? A few years ago, back in my advertising agency days,...

Nissan Designed a Mass-Market Electric Car in 1998. Here's Why You've Never Heard of It
Car companies are hustling to develop practical, mass-appeal electric cars right now. But in 1998, the Nissan Altra EV was already there. Here’s why this revolutionary vehicle you’ve never heard of didn’t pan out, and what it’s like to drive today. The Altra was one of a number of...

At $1,950, Could This 2002 Suzuki Grand Vitara V6 Be a Grand Bargain?
People always say that good things come in small packages. Today’s Suzuki is a pretty small package. Could that, and its price mean it’s pretty good? There’s a funny bit in The Simpsons where Milhouse’s dad is getting fired from his job at the cracker plant following his breakup...

You Can Buy a Street-Legal NASCAR Race Car This Weekend
There aren’t many things cooler than race cars, but some variants are cooler than others. Safe race cars? Cooler than unsafe race cars. Open-wheel race cars versus race cars with fenders around their wheels? That’s a personal choice. Former race cars that have been ? The coolest of them...

Could This Zany 1991 'Baja' Ford Mustang Get You to Pony Up $5,500?
With it’s Martini livery, jacked up pre-runner ride height, and GT drive train, today’s Mustang has a little bit for everyone. Let’s see if it’s priced in equally egalitarian fashion. According to a out of the U.S. Federal Reserve, consumer debt in America has topped $4 trillion for the...
