A Porsche 911 3.0 RSR Manual Just Sold for $6,000 Because Everything Is Really Stupid Now
A Porsche 911 3.0 RSR Manual Just Sold for $6,000 Because Everything Is Really Stupid Now-July 2024

Look, I love old car manuals. Hell, I just spent $6 for a manual for a 1978 Volvo 343, a car I’ve never even seen in person. But when I look at Bring a Trailer and see that a , I can’t help but feel that nothing makes sense anymore and if we’re not careful, all of the world’s money will one day be trapped in a neverending transactional cycle of air-cooled Porsche cars and related items.

I’m not saying the manual isn’t cool—it is, deeply, and achingly so. It’s also very rare—only 54 3.0-liter RSRs were ever built, so there’s likely only around that many manuals made, too.

It’s full of great pictures and pages and piles of impressive-sounding German words spelled with moon-man letters like Impulszählmeßwerk. I mean, that’s worth plenty right there.

I mean, come on, look at this shit:

For many of us, this is glorious. But even for a sucker like me, it’s glorious to the tune of, maybe, at the most, $500. That seems like a reasonable amount to pay for an admittedly very cool 44-year old three-ring binder full of Xeroxed pages.

But six grand? That’s insane. I don’t want to hear any bullshit about what the market will bear, it’s objectively nuts. Here, look. You know what else $6,000 will get you, right on the same site? A car that’s almost exactly like an early Porsche 356:

Look at that lovely Ghia! It sold for $900 less than that manual! It’s much faster than that notebook full of Porsche shit! Sure, it’s no 911 RSR, but you know what? Neither is a fucking notebook.

But I should know better than to apply logic to old Porsche stuff now. I mean,

That very early 356 chassis—or what’s sort of left of a chassis—went for $100,000.

With that in mind, I guess a $6,000 manual sort of makes sense.

Except, it doesn’t. This is insane. Everyone needs to breathe into a paper bag, or something.

For $16,595, Do The FUQI Chicken
Knock-offs and China go together like fists and fury, and while lacking in originality, the country's craftsmen are wickedly talented in the art of the cheap copy. A perfect example, today's FUQI 4X4 is sort of, kind of, almost like an old Toyota FJ. Will its price however, have you...

For $15,000, Don’t Tell The Wife
The seller of today's M5 doesn't seem too eager to sell his emerald E34, and the litany of features/upgrades and mods could make you green with envy. But is its price just too much green? As far as North American countries go, Canada is pretty much the most demure. Mexico's...

For $2,000, Jamaica Phone Call To Your Momma Lately?
It's long been the rule of thumb here on that you never, ever buy someone else's project, as you don't know if they were all thumbs. Of course today's Triumph-based Jamaican needs so much work that it conceivably could be considered your project. Its price however, may not get a...

For $17,900, I’ll CE Your 280 and Raise You 5.0
The German word for muscle is muskel which is also coincidentally how Popeye pronounces it. Applied automotively, that would make today's 5.0-powered MB 280CE a muskelwagen, but is its price enough to make your eyes pop? Unsurprisingly, a hefty 97% of you would not have popped for yesterday's , preferring...

If you buy an Alfa Romeo — any Alfa Romeo — you are going to have to learn chemistry. That's because, as exemplified by today's Alfetta sedan, you'll have to come to terms with the chemical reaction known as oxidization eating it alive. The question is, will this Alfa's price...

For $22,000, It’s Stroseks Or No Sex
Porsche's 928, while a timeless design, had a really big ass. The German tuner Strosek must have thought that too much is never enough, and today's Ultra III sports and even wider rear end. Will its price prove an equally continental divide? The 928 is a front-engine, rear-drive V8-powered coupe...
