He qualified with teammate Oliver Jarvis, giving Jarvis his first-ever pole position with the Audi LMP1 team.

Jarvis and di Grassi had an average qualifying time was a 1:39.207—a mere 0.264 seconds ahead of the No. 1 Porsche 919. The No. 1 Porsche also has a face we won’t see after this season: driver , who is retiring after this race.
