Chaos At Monaco Vintage Race After Safety Crew Drops Historic McLaren From A Crane
Chaos At Monaco Vintage Race After Safety Crew Drops Historic McLaren From A Crane-August 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:32

Two race cars ended up wrecked at Monaco’s vintage grand prix last week, not by any great fault of their own, but because a track safety crew dropped a historic McLaren off of a crane onto the racing surface.

The problem was that the track officials released the pack of racing cars from behind the safety car too soon. For a moment, the entire field was racing under green while the McLaren 23 sat stranded in the middle of the track.

Monaco officials, typically known as the best in the business, quickly slowed all the cars down, but in the bunch up, another driver in a Tyrrell wrecked.

Everyone made it out okay, thankfully. These 1970s cars can still be the deathtraps they were back in the day.

Ferrari's Old Flat-12 Le Mans Prototype Is The Angriest Sounding Car Imaginable
Ferraris are a mainstay at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, but only in the GT classes now. You can’t blink at La Sarthe without accidentally nudging a 458 with an LMP1. () Let’s ride on one of Ferrari’s older Le Mans prototypes at Road America, then: the cuckoo-for-Cocoa-Puffs flat-12...

How You Could Argue That F1 Cars Don't Have One Motor; They Have Four
Formula 1 is a strange sport, strange enough that the number of engines in the cars themselves could be a matter of debate. F1's currently regulates that teams use a 1.6 liter turbocharged V6 with hybrid drive. This is fact. Even within this strict definition, we’re looking at weird engines...

Fifty years after the Ford GT40's original , there’s a Ford back at the top of its class. Ford GTs were the two fastest cars in the LM GTE Pro class for the first of three Le Mans qualifying sessions. Two LMP1-H Porsche 919s qualified the fastest overall. The two...

The Inconclusive Story Of How Ferrari Nearly Quit F1 For The Indy 500
The Inconclusive Story Of How Ferrari Nearly Quit F1 For The Indy 500
This story is one of the strangest and most debatable in Ferrari’s history. It’s not clear if Ferrari was once about to dump Formula One in favor of America’s greatest race, or if the company was so petty that they built an entire car for a bluff. This is a...
