Danica Patrick's Last Race As A Full-Time NASCAR Driver Ends Early In Flames
Danica Patrick's Last Race As A Full-Time NASCAR Driver Ends Early In Flames-September 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:17

NASCAR’s final race of 2017 has been somewhat anticlimactic so far, with only one early caution for Joey Gase eating the wall. But now an incident involving Danica Patrick and Kasey Kahne brought out the second caution flag and ended Patrick’s as a full-time driver early on just lap 141 of 267.

A cut tire caused Patrick’s No. 10 Ford to go into the wall between turns 3 and 4, according to the team. After hitting the wall, Patrick’s car was collected by the No. 5 of Kasey Kahne, who was running closely behind her.

It’s a sad early end to Patrick’s last full-time race. Patrick’s car caught fire under her right front tire, and the smoke was bad enough that she pulled over before before making it down pit road.

Patrick was unharmed in the crash, having already been released from the infield care center. This was her 11th DNF of the season.

Sadly, Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s final race isn’t going so well, either. He sits in 23nd place after due to an before the race.

Kyle Larson, a non-championship contender, currently sits in the lead after winning Stage 1 and Stage 2, with playoff contender Martin Truex Jr. sitting right behind him in second place. The championship four have ran close to the front for nearly the entire race, so it’s definitely not settled yet.

Here's What Happens When a 891-HP Hillclimb Car Goes Drag Racing
You don’t see the enormous wings of a high-dollar hillclimb car anywhere outside of, well, a hill climb, too often. But this Audi Quattro S1 E2 built for Pikes Peak would look glorious on any track. The more time I spend looking at this car, the more ridiculous it seems....

This Is Terrifying
This Is Terrifying
Driving flat-out up Pikes Peak is already incredibly challenging. It’s over 12 miles of uphill driving with 156 turns, many of which are bounded by sheer rock and vast areas of nothing into which you could plummet. It’s hard. That’s why doing it without the benefit of a handy little...

Trump on NASCAR: ‘The Whole League Endorsed Me’
Monday saw Simon Pagenaud become the first Indy 500 winner to visit the White House since 2006, which, hm. Pagenaud did his assigned job of standing there and being relatively boring, but the real weirdness began when President Trump decided to just start riffing on NASCAR instead. You can...

Toyota Sets Provisional Pole at Le Mans After Crash Sent It Flying
The 24 Hours of Le Mans is one of the most challenging races in the world—but every now and then we get a reminder that drivers are fallible people, too. And we sure as hell got that last night during the first qualifying session. The No. 7 Toyota was in...
