Dover International Speedway's Concrete Is Falling Apart (Again)
Dover International Speedway's Concrete Is Falling Apart (Again)-May 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:41

Maybe “falling apart” is a bit of an overstatement, but “crumbling around the edges” is certainly accurate. This isn’t the first time the concrete track surface has been an issue, either. This time, it was the pit lane that started to crumble apart at the seam.

The September 2014 race at Dover also had to be paused while repairs were made to the track. A piece of concrete had come up and damaged Jamie McMurray’s car.

Fortunately, no cars were harmed by the crumbling surface this year, but we’re noticing a clear theme. Last year’s Spring race at Dover also had issues with loose concrete on track.

While some fans wonder why the track doesn’t just pave over its rare concrete surface with asphalt to fix these issues, the simple answer is because the concrete monster outside the oval would make a lot less sense.

RAWR MONSTER.

RAW EAT CAR.

OPEN SURFACE, CAUSE DESTRUCTION.

RAAAAAWR.

Jimmie Johnson went on to win today’s race at Dover, making it his tenth win at the concrete “Monster Mile” as well as his fourth win of the 2015 season.
