Even The Racing Is Gentrified In Brooklyn This Weekend
Even The Racing Is Gentrified In Brooklyn This Weekend-July 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:21

Welcome to the Jalopnik Weekend Motorsports Roundup, where we let you know what’s going on in the world of racing, where you can see it, and where you can talk about it all in one convenient place. Where else would you want to spend your weekend?

If you thought people complained enough already about how gentrified Brooklyn has become due to millennial hipsters or whatever, it will trouble you to learn that even this weekend’s racing won’t be with cars with screaming engines like the good old days. No—this weekend, Formula E comes to New York City because traditional combustion cars just aren’t cool enough.

If you’re ready for another solid weekend of exciting racing, we’ve got dizzy Sebastian Vettel racing Lewis Hamilton on his home turf in the British Grand Prix, New York hosting Formula E for the first time (reports are that it will be slippery), some Canadian IndyCar and some Canadian Porsche racing, New Hampshire NASCAR, as well as some drifting and some dragging.

While you wait for the live stuff to start, check out the re-runs—there’s an 11-hour marathon of Australian Supercars on CBS Sports Network to keep you company on Sunday.

As always, if I’ve missed anything you think is worth sharing, drop it below in the comments. Happy racing.

How To Completely Bork A Standing Race Start
How To Completely Bork A Standing Race Start
One of the most, erm, challenging things about Pirelli World Challenge is the standing start. Either your reactions are on their A-game and your car is working as it should or you're going to be left behind. Let's look at when that all goes wrong, shall we? This was from...

Nutz For A Cause: This B-Spec Car With Truck Nutz Is The Best Thing Ever
When I joked about with Truck Nutz, I had no idea I'd actually find a pair in the Pirelli World Challenge paddock. Many race cars race in support of charities, but Timothy Mincey Sr.'s Testicular Cancer Foundation-sponsored car is particularly on the ball(s) with it. Look at deez nutz. Look...

This Onboard Of A Rally Car Crashing Into A Lake Is Utterly Terrifying
Crashing is bad enough. Rolling down a hill into a lake is probably the worst case scenario, ever. Here's the onboard footage from the crash where driver Ott Tänak and codriver Raigo Mōldar plowed nose-forward off the track and rolled into a reservoir during the World Rally Championship's Rally Mexico....

More Proof That Drag Racing Is Harder Than It Looks
If you were looking for a summation of everything that makes drag racing bonkers, here you go. You're riding with 74-year-old Bill Dunlap in a nostalgic front-engined top fuel dragster at the recent 2015 Good Vibrations March Meet. He gets up on one front tire, crosses the center line, then...

Tony Stewart, Enemy Of ISIS, Had His Track Website Hacked
Tony Stewart's Eldora Speedway briefly showed this message around 2:00 p.m. Saturday purporting to be from ISIS. The message appeared in place of its usual graphics, complete with irritating autoplay audio of an Arabic song. According to , the Arabic logo reads, "There is no God, but God." Two Cincinnati...
