Ferrari's Revised, Head-Protecting Halo Appears In The Wild
Ferrari's Revised, Head-Protecting Halo Appears In The Wild-July 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:31

Scuderia Ferrari showed off their latest, lightened Formula One head protection system (dubbed a “halo”) ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix, reports . The latest version features a revised hoop with a wider arc so as to prevent a driver from hitting his head on it in the case of a major crash.

Ferrari have not decided if they were ready to test the new halo on track just yet, however, they practiced a medical extraction using the new halo in the pit lane on Thursday afternoon, with a mechanic playing the part of an injured driver.

It took around 10 minutes for medical staff to extract the mechanic from the car, per Motorsport.com. FIA officials were on site to observe the extraction test.

Halo-style head protection has been made for the 2017 season.
