Ferrari's Test Driver Line-Up Got Even Better: Vergne To Join In 2015
Ferrari's Test Driver Line-Up Got Even Better: Vergne To Join In 2015-November 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:47

Scuderia Ferrari's Formula One test roster already made a major score in young racer . Per , Ex-Toro Rosso racer Jean-Éric Vergne will join the team for 2015 as a test driver as well.

"The objective is a unanimous one and that is to help the Scuderia get back to the top step of the podium," explained Vergne to Autosport.

"Having had two years working in the simulator for a top F1 team and three years racing with Toro Rosso, my experience will add to the great efforts that are currently being made in order to get the team back to its winning ways."

Vergne just finished a Formula E racer in that series' last race for 2014 after being unceremoniously dropped in favor of an all-rookie lineup at Scuderia Toro Rosso.

If there was ever a man who was driving to earn a seat, it was Jean-Éric Vergne this weekend at…

Thing is, Vergne was a consistent mid-fielder in the Toro Rosso, which was a solid mid-field car. Being dropped with nowhere to go seemed undeserved for the twenty-four-year-old.

Ferrari continued their no-one-is-unfireable bonanza by letting longtime test driver Pedro de la Rosa go to make room for Vergne. Vergne will be focusing on simulator work for Ferrari.

"[Vergne] will fit into a programme aimed at improving important areas, invigorating and strengthening an already strong and capable group of professionals," said team principal Maurizio Arrivabene to Autosport.

Hopefully this high-priced game of Musical Chairs pays off for the Maranello squad. They're rumored to be Head of Race Strategy Neil Martin and picking up ex-Mercedes performance engineer Jock Clear in to current Engineering Director Pat Fry. Clear worked on Lewis Hamilton's World Championship-winning car for 2014.
