For $12,000, Would You Take This 1996 Lexus LX 450 On One Lap Of Luxury?
For $12,000, Would You Take This 1996 Lexus LX 450 On One Lap Of Luxury?-July 2024

Today’s Lexus shows that you actually can take it with you. Let’s see if its price is worth taking a hit in your wallet too.

So, being Canadian, the owner of yesterday’s would like to apologize to the 20% of you who voted his car Crack Pipe, and thank the 80% who gave it a Nice Price win. Then he’s going to go watch ice hockey.

That purple people money eater may have been a risky move, but it was cheap enough that you could easily just park it in your driveway. That way you could tell your lessors that yes, you own a Porsh.

Speaking of putting on airs, have a look at today’s . Seem familiar? Damn right, it’s a fancified Toyota Land Cruiser J80. Shit, we love those! The Lexus version offered Range Rover-level luxury and capability without that car’s almost certain likelihood of some major mechanical catastrophe befalling you either off-road or on.

This ’96 edition has seen 183,000 miles and a number of mods to make the off-roading experience even more adventurous. First and foremost, you’ve got aftermarket extended bumpers on both ends. The front bull bar carries an ARB winch and extra lights, while the one in back rocks an external spare carrier and a basket for whatever will fit in the basket.

A three-inch lift raises the stakes while locker rear and center diffs ensure that when the going gets tough this LX will get going. The ad also notes a stainless steel exhaust updated with Magnaflow cats and Borla bits. There’s a bunch of brake and other suspension updates and the expected maintenance work too. It all comes across as something that’s been pretty well cared for, and ready to be used as it was intended. Power comes from a 4.5-litre FZ-FE straight six (this was two years before the V8 J100 was introduced) and that was good for 215-bhp and 275 lb-ft of twist. An automatic backs that up.

The bodywork here seems clean and intact. No rust or major flaws are apparent in the pics. Up top there’s even a roof rack that’s apparently sturdy enough to hold a house when you go camping. Let’s see the bears eat you up there!

The inside is swathed in the kind of ample tappings of luxury as you might expect from a Lexus, but features the added benefit of a CB radio for the gritty and authentic trucker experience on the open road. Ten-four indeed, good buddy.

The driver’s seat is worn with the leather having split in a couple of places. That seems to be the case with these trucks as I’ve seen few that weren’t so blemished. A good set of dead sheep would make that go away nicely. Other than that it’s your typical ‘90s Toyota inside, which means lots of kit and pretty good fit.

The cost for all this luxury and capability is $12,000. Prices on this generation of Land Cruiser are not as dear as on the earlier ones, but who knows how long that will last. The Lexus version is all that and a bag of chips so maybe it’s really the one that you want. The question for today is; would you want this particular one, and, at its present price?

You decide!

Kansas City , or go if the ad disappears.
