This Personality-Based Car Matching Test Will Leave You Insulted And Searching For Answers
This Personality-Based Car Matching Test Will Leave You Insulted And Searching For Answers-July 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:09:57

Car buying site just sent us a new car-matching quiz based on what it calls an “Advance Algorithm Personality Test.” But don’t fall for any of that fancy mumbo-jumbo—the test is total poppycock, I tell you! (That’s right, I said poppycock. I’m going there.) There’s just no way my inner psyche yearns for these awful shitboxes. Right?

This new test, called , was apparently devised by “experts in behavioral science and statistics” including a Ph.D. in Social Psychology. Fancy stuff. The quiz includes personality tests meant to match people up with their perfect cars— personality tests that include random questions like this:

I took the test, and the results burned a hole into my soul (see the topshot). An Outlander and a Rogue I can almost excuse. Actually, no I can’t, but I will for now because of what’s sitting in the third position: A Jeep Patriot.

It matched me with a Jeep. Patriot. Everyone knows of my deep and abiding love for Jeeps, but... that Jeep?

This changes everything. All my life, I was unaware that I was subconsciously yearning for one of the shittiest cars of our millennium— the very embodiment of the dark era of Chrysler. Carhub says CarTron is “science-based,” and “100 percent guaranteed to be impartial.” How can I argue with that?

This realization may drive me insane. But I’m in good company, as my coworkers, too, are trying to deal with knowing that deep inside their hearts, they ache for truly terrible machines. Here’s what my editor Patrick George wants deep down, even though I’m not sure he’s ever even driven any of these cars:

And Kristen Lee, also a certifiable crazy person, somehow wants that crappy little Smart:

Jason Torchinsky—Jason Torchinsky, he, the king of air-cooled insanity and Indian micro-trucks!—has to go through the rest of his life knowing that the car for him is a brand new Audi hatchback on stilts:

at your own risk, because you may not like what you see.

NOS Energy Drink: First Gulp
NOS Energy Drink: First Gulp
Of all the things I've been sent to review, the one I've least wanted to try was not the Mitsubishi Galant. Instead, it was this: . I've got NOS, dude! I'm not a huge imbiber, so when the giant NOS box with a canister-like blue bottle and ugly t-shirt showed...

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee for a Rubicon-Shunning $8,500
The Jeep Grand Cherokee's trail-rated, but is it tail-rated, i.e., will it help you get lucky? Well, maybe not, but has one that may mean you won't need date rape drugs. Yesterday we took a breather from the SEMA craziness for a that 58% of you took a shine to....

Leave Your Heart in San Francisco for $14,000!
Rice-a-Roni isn't the only San Francisco treat. has found a Chevy that gives props to the city by the bay. Yesterday's drank from the diesel teat, which was part of the reason that 83% of you downed the haterade in its condemnation. But enough about the hate, let's talk about...

Jim Russell Lancer Evolution Experience: Because Oversteer Kicks Ass
The Lancer Evolution Experience starts off like most : You are plopped in front of a chalkboard and lectured to. After that, you're sent out and made to get wicked sideways. And that's when you wake the hell up. Full Disclosure: Mitsubishi paid for our entry to the Russell Lancer...

For $6,500, It’s a Ballroom Biarritz
When gas prices increase for a prolonged period of time, car makers respond with more fuel-efficient products. Today, has just such a Caddy from the ‘70s. And it comes with a can full of marbles. The Eldorado had been a halo product for Cadillac, and a premier personal coupe for...

Along Came a Spider for $24,950
may have suffered from arachnophobia, but today, has a fly-yellow Alfa that can sit on our tuffet any time it wants. Rarely does a group as disparate as this join together as one in a collective dry heave of revulsion over a contender, but that's what yesterday's engendered in 93%...
