For $17, 000, Could This 2007 Subaru Legacy Be A Killer Spec.B?
For $17, 000, Could This 2007 Subaru Legacy Be A Killer Spec.B?-July 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:09:58

The seller of today’s Legacy says that it’s “the grown up STI you are looking for.” Let’s see if this rare Subie’s price doesn’t make it a groan up as well. (Wow, that was bad.)

Lien on me, when you’re not strong. And I’ll be your friend, I’ll help you carry on. For it won’t be long, ’til I’m gonna need somebody to lien on.

Yes, it is true that yesterday’s did have a loan against its title that would need to be cleared before transfer of ownership, but I don’t think that should have been a deal killer. It was surprising then to find that the tidy, low-mileage and high-zoot custom truck didn’t—at least in the estimation of most of you—meet the mettle of its eighteen-grand price. Instead, it fell in a 73% Crack Pipe loss.

That was an unexpected outcome, however we will perhaps never know its veracity as the truck’s ad was pulled the very same day we presented it. Hopefully today’s will stick around longer so we can give it its due.

The Legacy is a kind of a weird car. It plays in a category with heavy hitters like the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord, and yet consistently outranks those major sellers in terms of customer loyalty and puppy dog-like affection. But you just don’t see them all that much. Maybe it’s that they just blend in really well.

One Legacy model that you really don’t see hardly at all is the spec.B. That’s the company’s STi for people in need of more room than an Impreza can offer. The spec.B was a special 500-model run edition of the 2.5GT in 2006, and it expanded to wider availability in ’07. These cars rock a 243-bhp/241 lb-ft of torque turbocharged pancake four, and this particular one channels that power through a six-speed stick on its way to Subaru’s Symmetrical AWD system. That includes a Torsen LSD in the back.

Performance specs for the car when new were zero to sixty times just a couple ticks above six seconds, and handling that was a couple steps above the standard 2.5GT. That’s owed to the Bilstein Sport Suspension fitted to the B, built off the STi’s bits and offering tighter handling and a harder ride than your mainstream 2.5GT.

This 95,000-mile B, in metallic grey, has all those cool Bilstein suspension bits, they just aren’t on the car right now. Instead, this two-owner car has had a bunch of aftermarket parts installed, including stiffer Bilsteins, JDM springs, slotted brakes, and upgraded sway bars and end links. You still get all the stock stuff if you want to return the car to its factory settings.

The body looks to be in fine shape, as does the interior, which comes with cool blue alcantara inserts on the seats, as they do. This being an ’07 it’s kitted with most all the conveniences you could want, including Nav. It also has Subaru’s cool star map logo on the center of the Momo three-spoke sport wheel, put there I think to help you locate Luke Skywalker’s secret man-cave.

Past problems noted in the ad are a bad MAF and leaky pumpkin. Fortunately, both issues are said to have been addressed and are hence not worth mentioning. The timing belt was refreshed 15,000 miles ago.

These went for thirty-five grand when new. This one’s not new anymore, but doesn’t look half bad, plus it comes with enough suspensions for two cars!

We’ll now have to decide if all that feels like it’s worth the seller’s $17,000 asking price. What do you think, does this B’s seller get an A for pricing acumen? Or, is that price one spec that just doesn’t add up?

You decide!

San Francisco , or go if the ad disappears.

At $14,750, Is This 'Museum-Quality' 2000 Mazda MX-5 Miata Artistically Priced?
While the second-generation Miata may not be as well-loved as its predecessor, it’s still shocking that today’s NB has done less than break-in miles over the last 20 years. Could its premium condition equal a premium price? You know how the old saying goes—close only counts in horseshoes and...

At $2,900, Could This 1984 Toyota Camry Be A Turbo Diesel Deal?
“Whoa, cool Camry” is something no one ever says, Seeing as today’s Camry is a turbo diesel with a five-speed, we might just have to alter our perception of what cool is. Let’s also see what this oil-burning sedan’s price tag should reasonably be perceived to be. When you...
