The Ford Ranger T1+ in a testing livery

is one of racing’s last true adventures. across treacherous terrain takes two weeks to complete. While it’s been 16 years since the traditional route from Paris, France to Dakar, Senegal, has been used, Saudi Arabia has been an equally challenging host. It’s a challenge that Ford Performance is going to take on next year with the Ranger.

is mounting a factory effort to win its first Dakar Rally in collaboration with M-Sport and Neil Woolridge Motorsport. (NWM) The multi-year plan will start with a purpose-built rally-raid machine based on the previous generation global Ford Ranger. The Ranger, equipped with a 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine, will compete in two test events this year before taking on the Dakar in January 2024. The team will take the lessons learned over testing and competition to build the T1+ for the 2025 Dakar Rally.

Mark Rushbrook, Global Director of Ford Performance Motorsports, said:

“To lead the charge at one of the ultimate global off-road events – the Dakar Rally – has been a goal of ours. We cannot underestimate the enormity of the challenge ahead of us. We need to finish and learn first with Ranger T1+ and partners like M-Sport and NWM, who bring their expertise to bear. Together, we can do amazing things in the sand dunes of the Arabian Peninsula.”

When the Ford Ranger Raptor T1+ arrives in 2025, it will likely face stiff competition from the other factory teams in the elite T1+ class. Nasser Al-Attiyah has won the last two Dakar Rallies with the Toyota GR DKR Hilux. with the all-electric RS Q e-tron hasn’t led to outright success, but the prototype buggy has been a formidable presence out on stages.

Kasey Kahne Slams Into Pit Wall With Car; Pauses NASCAR Race
Thankfully, no one was hurt in a rare, but frightening accident where an out-of-control NASCAR race car slammed into the pit wall at Pocono Raceway. Kasey Kahne got loose coming out of turn 3 at the track, spinning into the pit lane itself. KAHNESIZ Curiously, this is the second time...

Rubbin's Racin' And Pushin's Shovin' For Angry NASCAR Racers In Iowa
Ryan Reed was not happy with Ross Chastain driving him into the wall during the green-white-checkered finish of last night’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race. The two exchanged stern words and pointed fingers after the race, but it’s safe to say that a different finger was implied in Reed’s post-race push....

Can A Grown Man Fit In A Citroën DS3 WRC Hatch?
World Rally Championship codriver Paul Nagle would likely say, “Sort of.” Nagle ended up sitting in his car’s hatch for a while after driver Kris Meeke on the second run through the Jukojarvi stage during Day 2 of Rally Finland. Screencap via WRC Contact the author at . ...

Go Inside Cadillac's Monster ATS-V.R Race Car
I’m an unapologetic fan of the GT3-spec racer. It’s my favorite car on the Pirelli World Challenge grid, partly because I like the street and partly because American racecars running against vastly more expensive European competitors is one of our proudest traditions. (Also, that batshit crazy . That thing is...

Unstoppable Scott Dixon Shatters 15-Year-Old Lap Record At Mid-Ohio
Until today the long-standing lap record at Mid-Ohio was 1:05.347, set identically by Gil de Ferran in 1999 and Dario Franchitti in 2000. That record was broken today by Scott Dixon. Several times, in fact. A total of 11 (!) of the 24 cars in today’s qualifying shattered the old...

Wrenches: Also Useful As Suspension Parts
Wrenches: Also Useful As Suspension Parts
When the M-Sport car of Elfyn Evans and Daniel Barritt broke a suspension arm on the Ouninpohja stage (SS4) during Rally Finland, they whipped out one of the best LeMons-grade on-stage fixes I’ve seen in quite some time. The team ran wide on SS4 and hit a rock, breaking a...
