Here We Go Again: V8 Supercars' Finale Is Suspended For Being Soggy Wet-September 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:47

V8 Supercars' second race for the day of the has just been red flagged on lap 45 due to torrential downpours. It's a complete mess out there with too much standing water for even wet tires to deal with. Flooding has been reported in pit lane.

Thirty laps remain to complete the full distance of the race.

"It was too dangerous. We all want to race and down the front straight we were aquaplaning... it's not very nice," explained driver Shane van Gisbergen, who got stuck out in the mess.

Here's video from when they released a safety car at the beginning of the downpour. Watch Garth Tander hydroplane on standing water and spin back around to rejoin the course like a boss.

"The conditions out there on the track...you can't see anything!" said Tander of the rain.

: Shortly after publishing this post, the race was called for worsening conditions. Channel 7's coverage of the race in Australia even cut out due to technical issues with all the water.

Leader on lap 45 Shane van Gisbergen was declared the winner. As this race was the last one of the season, Jamie Whincup also claimed the 2014 Driver's Championship. Congratulations to both drivers for quickly mastering boat racing for the season finale!

Talladega's Over, So Let's Watch A Cinematic Masterpiece
I can’t help it. NASCAR was at Talladega, a car even caught fire, and help me, Oprah Winfrey, I need to rewatch Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. It’s one of the few motorsport-related movies that just never gets old. Confession time: I don’t usually like Will Ferrell as...

The “big one” hit early on lap 46 at today’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Geico 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, taking out a massive chunk of the field. Here’s the pile-up, in case you missed it. Trevor Bayne’s number 6 Ford got loose when Kurt Busch’s number 41 Chevy got next to...

Formula One nerds were all a-twittering this weekend over a report from Iranian state news agency saying that the Middle Eastern dictatorship has plans to construct a “Formula 1 circuit.” But here’s the thing. Iran can build an F1-capable circuit all they want, but it ain’t happening anytime soon. And...

Dale Earnhardt Jr. Wins At Talladega
The last few laps of today’s Geico 500 at Talladega Superspeedway were relatively uneventful, with Dale Earnhardt Jr. holding on to his lead for dear life. That’s right: NASCAR’s most likable dude just brought home the win. This is Dale Jr.’s sixth win at Talladega and twenty-fourth win in Sprint...
