Here's A Cool Car
Here's A Cool Car-May 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:21

This is a 2006 Nissan 350Z that raced in the top GT500 rung of Japan’s SUPER GT touring car series. It’s like a regular 350Z, only completely different.

Notably, the car is roughly 13 feet wide (that’s an eyeball estimation), it’s made out of carbon fiber (as you can see above in its 2006 season debut) and it also had a completely different drivetrain.

This car ran what Nissan dubbed the VQ30DETT. This twin-turbo V6 made its debut in 2002, supplanting the twin-turbo straight six RB26DETT in the R34 Skyline GT-R’s final race years. In 2007, it got axed for the VK45DE, ushering in Nissan’s still-running fascination with V8-engined race cars.

I wish I knew more about the VQ30DETT, not having too much information beyond its 490 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque. Is it a sleeved and boosted version of the VQ35 that was in the production 350Z? Is it a steadily-updated version of the VQ30 that debuted in 1994? I have no idea.

Either way, it sounds fun and the car looks rad. Please enjoy.

Pace Cars Of The Indy 500 Is A Quaint Slice Of Motorsport History Packaged In A Coffee Table Book
We take for granted many of the Indianapolis 500's traditions, including the introduction of the pace car, so any book that focuses on detailing the year-by-year changes of those traditions has me hooked long before I even open the cover. And that’s exactly what happened with Pace Cars of...
