I'm Really Struggling To Understand This Bizarre Bernie Ecclestone Photo
I'm Really Struggling To Understand This Bizarre Bernie Ecclestone Photo-July 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:21

In this photo here, you can see Formula One legend on one knee, hands pressed together as if in infinite gratitude, before former troll-king of F1, . It was part of an Ecclestone-honoring photo collage at the 2017 and I just have so many questions.

First of all, I have trouble believing that this is a photo captured during a legitimate interaction between the two. I’d be more inclined to believe that it was a joke of some kind and it just happened to be caught on camera. If that’s the case, then what is it doing in an homage?

The homage, affixed to the inner walls of one of the hillclimb crossings, was part of the Festival’s Bernie Ecclestone Central Feature. Usually, the Central Feature celebrates one manufacturer. As this year is Ferrari’s 70th anniversary, you’d think it would be Ferrari.

It wasn’t. It was about Bernie and all of his contributions to F1. Predictably, his , how he was kind of and his went completely unmentioned.

The massive statue outside of Goodwood House was actually pretty cool, but then they unfurled the big Bernie banners during the “Bernie Ecclestone Central Feature Moment” on Sunday and Bernie was standing on the balcony and waving to the crowd below and the whole thing suddenly took on a very dictator-y feel.

That’s what’s tripping me up about the Lauda photo. It’s just a larger piece in an installation that seems to be going out of its way to lick Bernie’s shoes. I wonder what kind of dirt he has on the Goodwood people in order swing such a massive tribute to himself.

I’d also like to point out that even with Lauda on his knee, he still comes up to Bernie’s chest. Like how Elijah Wood and Co. looked way tinier than Viggo Mortensen with the use of forced perspective in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

More Than 88,000 People Signed a Change.org Petition to Keep Kimi Raikkonen on the Ferrari F1 Team
Before the team it would trade 38-year-old out for younger driver this week, someone to keep him around on Change.org—the “web’s leading platform for social change,” as it calls itself. A valiant effort. The petition organizer argued Ferrari needs Raikkonen to keep the balance with current teammate Sebastian Vettel, and...

BMW Is In On GT1 Discussions: Report
The only news in racing (as far as I’m concerned) is that this year Toyota, McLaren, Aston Martin, Ferrari and Ford are in talks to lay out a hypercar-looks/GT1-style class for Le Mans in 2020/2021. Now BMW is in on those talks, as reports. Hm. My initial thought was “oh...

Tony Stewart Didn't Know He Had an Offer to Race the Indy 500 Because He Doesn't Check His Email
Emails are hard. You’ve got like five accounts, full of news, people asking you to do stuff, annual reminders you set 10 years ago and can’t delete, spam, and offers from 53 retail stores when you remember deliberately not checking the “keep me updated with promos” box. It’s easy to...

Ferrari Has a New Contraption to Cover Up its Camera And I Love it
Formula One is definitively at its best when people are trying all sorts of crazy tricks. —that of covering up its cockpit camera usually used for television broadcasts—is either brilliant or hilariously dumb. Ferrari was ordered to stop it. It didn’t. So it was ordered to stop it again. It...
