Group A rallying was certainly the golden era for homologation specials. That is, road-legal cars that served to homologate race-ready parts for competition. But that’s not all regular people could buy.

Every year, Jalopnik’s most Chosen members – well, just me this year – have brought you the very best of Group C and GT1 racing from the 1980s and 1990s. We even did a Group B rally theme once. But for some reason we’ve never covered arguable the most successful racing formula of all. It’s the awkwardly-titled , worthy of celebration.

This is the 1992 STI Collection from Subaru. It is far from the only piece of car clothing a person could or can buy. Go to any WRC event (or dial up WRC.comshould say) and there are all kinds of race-related hats, shirts, sunglasses, and keychains you can pick up. There’s , for some reason.

But are any of these items beautiful pink v-neck sweaters? No, they are not.

Wonderfully, this fashion catalogue is kept on , which also collects all of the various other racing-related literature on offer from Subaru through the years. Here, for instance, is the STI parts catalog of the same year, and here is the same for 1990. You see a Subaru Legacy sliding through a forest dirt road. With some STI skidplates, engine and diff mounts, sway bars, bushings, struts, roll cage, steering wheel, and stickers, you’ll be set to do the same!

The PlayWithLegacyRS page is actually pretty great, with lots of very excellent brochures. .

In any case, it is imperative that I get my hands on a full set of this ‘92 rally gear. I’m confused, honestly, why Subaru doesn’t still sell this gear to this day.

Motorsport has infiltrated practically every corner of this planet, and has been around for as long as there have been motors. Hell, racing has been around far longer than cars have been, and it would make sense that racing will continue on into the future after humans expand outward...

IMSA And ACO Have Settled On Joint LMDh Class Regulations
Back in January the ACO figured out that like a week-old flan, and had to do something quick. Before the economic disaster that has been the covid-19 crisis, the FIA WEC LMP1 class had already practically dissolved, Hypercar was practically a non-starter, and there would be no exciting new...

In the wake of the coronavirus lockdown, every racing sanctioning body is rushing to iRacing as a way to continue racing in this mid-season impromptu off-season. Every major racing series from NASCAR to IMSA to IndyCar is running iRacing every week with professional drivers racing to professional standards (sometimes). The...

Watch Ferraris Battle RX-7s In This 1989 IMSA Race
It’s day whatever of covid-Time and here in Detroit, there are big fluffy snowflakes falling from the sky. Time to pull up an old race, and imagine I’m perched up in the stands, holding an icy and getting a nice sunburn while the turbos chirp and chatter below. This...

Watch Red Bull's F1 Drivers Take A Tour Of The Netherlands
In preparation for the Dutch Grand Prix at the newly-revamped Zandvoort circuit—a race I was seriously looking forward to back in January—Red Bull Racing let its two drivers haul ass around the Verstappen’s home country in the old championship-winning RB7 and RB8 from 2011 and 2012. Though they have...

IndyCar Plans A Return To Real World Racing On June 6 [Updated]
Back in the far-ago past of 17 days ago, Texas Motor Speedway president Eddie Gossage commented that it would be impossible for IndyCar to conduct a race at Texas without fans or without sharing the weekend with NASCAR, you know, for money reasons. Thankfully IndyCar didn’t risk the safety...
