as a result of a crash attempting to set a new speed record at the Alvord Desert in Oregon in late August, but she may be eligible to posthumously hold the title for World’s Fastest Woman. At the opening of the honoring her, it was announced that her times would be submitted for a Guinness World Record.

This news was reported by , which was on the scene at the exhibition’s opening.

The current record is held by , who averaged a speed of 512.7 mph in a three-wheeled rocket-powered vehicle called The SMI Motivator. She set her record in the Alvord desert in December of 1976. Prior to that, the record for the world’s fastest woman had barely hit 200 mph.

That record has stood ever since. No one has been able to even come close. But if the Combs submission is verified and accepted, Jessi would posthumously take the honor.

Combs completed two runs at Alvord, the first of which hit 515.346 mph while the second was 548.432 mph. That means her average speed was 531.889 mph—just under 20 mph faster than O’Neil’s time.

There’s a lot of red tape to be cleared, though. Combs must have made two full runs prior to her crash for the times to count—which she is said to have done, according to the video shared by .

It would be great to see Jessi take the official title of World’s Fastest Woman as a way to further honor her legacy and further cement her place amongst the list of great, badass women in motorsport and record-breaking.

The 2024 IndyCar Engine Sounds Better Because It's Louder
It was about forty degrees Fahrenheit when Scott Dixon and Josef Newgarden climbed aboard their Honda and Chevrolet-powered, respectively, Dallara IndyCar machines on Monday, and again on Tuesday when Newgarden was subbed out for Will Power. All drivers were in attendance for the 2024-spec engine test at Indianapolis Motor...

I Finally Watched A Formula 1 Race And I'm Starting To Get It
Back in December, . But, , my interest was piqued. Plus, the 2022 season meant new cars, new liveries, and new team lineups — a fresh start, like getting into Evangelion with the Rebuild movies. I decided, then and there, to watch the 2022 Formula 1 season. For ,...

Nitro Rallycross Doubles Calendar To Ten Events In Six Countries
In 2021 Nitro Rallycross really kicked off in a big way, setting up a five-race season across the United States, and grabbed some pretty big names from global motorsport. It was a fairly short season, kicking off in September and running through early December, so it was nice and...

I Love This D1 Toyota MR2 Drift Car
The first-generation Toyota MR2 is a cult classic, eternally praised for its light weight and simple design. The second-generation Toyota MR2, well, people don’t talk about that one. The car has a reputation for challenging handling, and though I’ve never driven one myself, I have a feeling it suffers from...

This Four-Cylinder Audi R8 Is Way Cooler Than The V10 Ever Was
For reasons I can’t quite explain, Audi’s R8 supercar has always seemed a little on the lame side for my tastes. I don’t know if it’s the boring styling or the slower-than-a-Boxster 4.2-liter V8 version that turned me off first, but the halo of the four-rings lineup has never...
