Loose Drain Cover Pauses The 24 Hours Of Le Mans To Put The Track Back Together
Loose Drain Cover Pauses The 24 Hours Of Le Mans To Put The Track Back Together-December 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:14

Tired yet? The road used for the 24 Hours of Le Mans just gave everybody a good chance to make another pot of coffee because it’s kind of falling apart. A drain cover came loose, so cars circulated behind a safety car Sunday morning while race personnel tack the cover down more securely.

We got SWEET ACTION shots of the track staff at Tetre Rouge mixing together some concrete and plopping down the cover.

RIVETING! Wait, they’re not riveting. It looks to be some sort of two-part glue-down mixture, if the announcers are to be believed. I’d trust their judgement more if Dale Earnhardt Jr. was on there, just because he’s spending part of his retirement doing a .

Someone was even bored enough to make a Twitter account, which...no. No. Do as I say, not as I do: never tweet.

Many cars are using the brief break to cycle cars through the pits. Fernando Alonso is back in the No. 8 Toyota to spice things up now. I’m sure you’ve already had to call 911 if you’re making a drinking game out of Alonso mentions on the commentary feed, so brace yourselves.

The van has now pulled away from the drain cover, so the safety car was removed in favor of a slow zone at Tetre Rouge to allow the drain cover gunk to dry some. Let’s be honest: I made this post to give my hands something to do, as it’s almost 3:00 a.m. where I live and the threat of sleep during this lengthy safety car period was real.

The joy of street courses, everybody!
