Most of Suzuki's MotoGP Bikes Will Be Crushed
Most of Suzuki's MotoGP Bikes Will Be Crushed-September 2024

ended its time in the pinnacle series with the ultimate swan song: As Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia sealed his first MotoGP World Championship with a ninth-place race finish, Suzuki’s Alex Rins won the Valencian Grand Prix. The victory raised the same question as when the Japanese manufacturer announced in July. Why would Suzuki withdraw from MotoGP less than two years after winning the riders’ and teams’ championships?

Suzuki has cited financial reasons behind its MotoGP departure decision. Financial reasons are also why Suzuki’s GSX-RR motorcycles won’t be able to find a new home like its riders. Joan Mir and Alex Rins are departing the folding Team Suzuki Ecstar for Honda’s factory and satellite programs, respectively. However, most of Suzuki’s Grand Prix fleet will have a date with a crusher. Livio Suppo, Suzuki’s team manager, confirmed this in :

“Unfortunately, it is not a possibility, but a certainty. A couple of these bikes will end up in some museum, others will be crushed, along with spare parts and everything. All the Japanese manufacturers do it for a matter of taxes, because otherwise there would be assets on which to pay taxes. As they are no longer usable, they make this choice of always crushing everyone.”

Unsurprisingly, the same boardroom that decided to end a championship-winning racing program also views its team’s motorcycles as taxable assets. The Suzuki GSX-RR will be remembered for Joan Mir’s 2020 MotoGP World Championship-winning season. Mir won the title through sheer consistency, and he nearly finished the pandemic-impacted season without a race win. Suzuki is also ending its endurance racing program in the FIM Endurance World Championship, which won two of the last three championships in that category.

If You Had A Ferrari 360, Would You Rally It?
No, not those stupid highway speeding crashfests dudes do in sticker-covered Bentleys. I’m talking about stage rally competition. That’s what this guy did, and it’s awesome. You’re looking at Yeray Lemes with codriver Samuel Vega at the 2013 running of the Rally Isla de Lanzarote in the Canary Islands. Here’s...

This Honda Civic Race Car Eats BMWs For Breakfast
The most interesting car to me is the one that entirely defies expectations and at the for the earlier this month I was shocked one morning to see a bright orange-and-white Civic hatch tear its way through a line of BMWs in a couple of laps. Just watch the video....

Simona de Silvestro Escapes Unharmed After Her IndyCar Ignites On Fire
Simona de Silvestro’s cars have an unfortunate history of catching fire at the Indianapolis 500, it seems. Today’s practice session fire was her third fire in five visits to the famous race. Fortunately, she was able to hop out of the car before flames caught up to her seat inside....

Spin Leads To Terrifying Airborne Somersault Crash In Indy 500 Practice
Helio Castroneves has won the Indy 500 three times. He’s blessed at the speedway. But today the speedway bit back. Thankfully, Helio is ok. Castroneves got loose on track and backed the car into the wall in the short chute between turn one and turn two. That got some lift,...

Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus Will Race With The Jalopnik Bump At The N24
I drove all night to make sure I got to the Ring in time for the Jalopnik bump(s) to be added livery before it was shown to the public in the nearby village of Adenau. That’s at least ten extra horsepower right there, success is inevitable. Jalopnik stickers , that’s...
