MotoE's Future Goes Up in Flames
MotoE's Future Goes Up in Flames-August 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:10

Disaster struck nascent international electric motorcycle series MotoE on Wednesday night during the series’ pre-season testing event in Jerez, Spain. Every single Energica Ego Corsa bike was burned in a currently unexplained paddock fire, spelling tragedy for the entire sport.

This year was intended to be the first season for the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup series. Its five rounds were intended to start as a MotoGP support series at the Spanish Grand Prix weekend on May 3-5, and the pre-season test was the series’ first attemptat actually getting rubber on track.

A statement from the reads as follows:

A fire in the newly-built E-paddock has destroyed the majority of material for the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Fortunately there have been no injuries. An update will follow in the coming hours regarding the exact causes of the fire and any subsequent changes to the calendar.

It’s a heartbreaking moment for each of the twelve teams involved in the series, some of whom also field MotoGP bikes.

This is a disaster that will be difficult to recover from. While it can be destroyed in one, a racing series isn’t something that can be developed overnight. MotoE will have a long way to go before we see bikes back on track again. The predicts that the series will be back in 2019 for a revised schedule, but that waits to be seen.

Formula One's Nico Rosberg Would Like To Show You His Balls Of Steel
Silver Arrows? Perhaps Silver Huevos is a better name. Here’s Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg outbraking Williams’ Valtteri Bottas at the chicane during today’s Formula One Japanese Grand Prix. You’re welcome. Rosberg started on pole, but was also receiving a pretty intense shoulder massage right before the start of the race. Perhaps...

I know that’s not what literally happened here, but it’s been so long since we’ve had an American in Formula One — indulge me, okay? Look at this pass and tell me that the Statue of Liberty herself isn’t weeping as we speak. It’s beautiful. Rossi’s Manor Marussia teammate Will...

Taking Out The Pit Entry Cone = Ten Points (And A New Front Wing)
Poor Carlos Sainz Jr. Not only did he whack into the pit entry cone as he pulled into the pits, but he locked up his tires trying to slow down down to pit lane speed in time. This looked like the worst last minute pit call ever, but the upside...

McLaren Formula One team boss Ron Dennis just dropped a bomb on British broadcaster Martin Brundle after the Japanese Grand Prix. When Brundle asked, “Are [Jenson] Button and [Fernando] Alonso in your primary two cars next year?” on the broadcast, Dennis responded “Yes!” It took a little while for Brundle...

Jenson Button Still Hasn't Announced Squat About Retiring (Or Not) From F1
Contrary to that McLaren Honda driver Jenson Button was certainly announcing his retirement from Formula One ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix, we’ve heard nothing. Zero. Zip. Nada. Nope. Not a peep about Jenson’s future. Not even about his post-race dinner plans. Noooooope. On Friday, McLaren chief operating operating officer...
