NASCAR races at restrictor-plate tracks like Daytona International Speedway and Talladega Superspeedway are known for their nearly inevitable “Big One” wrecks, but the early laps in Saturday’s Xfinity Series race was a big one in its own rights—big not in numbers, but in just how hard the hit actually was.

Sent spinning out of the draft on lap 31 of the Sparks Energy 300, the No. 25 of Chris Cockrum made hard contact with an inside wall. The angle and speed of the hit made for an airborne spin, but Cockrum hit a SAFER barrier——and was able to walk away from the wreck.

The race got back underway without a red-flag period for cleanup, and Brandon Jones leads with 50 laps to go.
