NASCAR Sprint Cup Race Rained Out For Second Week In A Row
NASCAR Sprint Cup Race Rained Out For Second Week In A Row-March 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:43

Mother Nature has to NASCAR lately. After last weekend’s wild rain-fueled ride, this weekend has been delayed entirely to the next day. Miss today’s Sprint Cup action? You missed exactly nothing. The entire race has been to 1:00 PM ET Sunday on Fox.

According to NASCAR, forecasts didn’t show a long enough break in precipitation to dry the track and start the race. The rain began around noon and picked up in intensity two hours before the race was scheduled to start at 7:00 PM. While last week’s race at Bristol Motor Speedway was able to start and restart several times during the storms that moved through there, forecasts for Richmond International Raceway today showed no break in the rain.

NASCAR has rain tires for road courses, but not for ovals.

Some drivers are looking forward to the green, un-rubbery track conditions.

“When this place gets the rubber washed off of it, it is really, really fast for a little bit,” driver Kyle Larson told . “But then it wears out tires quicker. You have to think about that kind of stuff. I’m sure we will have a competition caution at some point so you have to be patient at the beginning of the race. And the track will change a whole bunch throughout the whole race.”

The race will hopefully resume this afternoon, pending clear, dry track conditions.
