Porsche's Le Mans Special Car Wins The 24 Hours Of Le Mans
Porsche's Le Mans Special Car Wins The 24 Hours Of Le Mans-May 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:40

In case you missed twenty-four hours of nailbiting action where any number of six German LMP1s could be a possible winner for the 83rd 24 Hours of Le Mans, Porsche’s Le Mans-only trio of Nico Hülkenberg, Earl Bamber and Nick Tandy took the win.

Porsche has been a qualifying superstar lately, but unable to translate that into a World Endurance Championship win. Not this time. Audi, in unlikely Audi fashion, kept having to pull their cars back into the garage, losing crucial time to the more reliable Porsches. Both had the speed to win, as shown by Andre Lotterer’s 3:17 record in-race lap time, which felt like an answer to Porsche this week.

Is this the year that ends the incessant Audi dominance at Le Mans?????????? Who the hell knows,…

#17 was the and somewhat of a fan favorite, but ultimately, it was the nod to Porsche’s future in the season-long white #19 that took the win. #17 wasn’t far behind, taking second place in front of the #7 Audi.

Shut. The. Front. Door. Shut down the Internet. Drop everything. And look at this. Porsche just…

You can only have a third car at Le Mans (and Spa, as a run-up to Le Mans), and this two-race squad was the least likely of any of Porsche’s entries to win, but they gave Porsche that crucial first win after coming back to Le Mans last year.

Congratulations, Porsche!

KCMG took the LMP2 win, edging out fellow Nissan-powered entry of JOTA Sport for first place. Less than a lap separated the two cars at the very end of the race, so it remained close to the very end.

Corvette Racing had a brutal start to their weekend, . Their remaining #64 car, a fan favorite driven by Jordan Taylor, Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner, took a decisive win in LM GTE Pro, with several full laps ahead of AF Corse.

Corvette Racing was devastated to pull an entry from Le Mans for the first time ever, but given the

Curiously, SMP Racing’s LM GTE Am-class Ferrari 458 was the second fastest GT car out of anyone—pros or amateurs. LM GTE Am wasn’t even a contest, with a full lap separating them from second place winner Dempsey Proton Racing. Sorry, McDreamy, but second place is phenomenal, too—especially at this Le Mans.

Did you take a catnap, have to wee and/or get held up by some fartknocker making an eighteen-point…

Running on 22? hours with no sleep caught up with me, as I failed to mention that teams first whip out their third cars at the 6 Hours of Spa before Le Mans. That was not previously noted, and has been added above.

The Super-Dominant Ford GT Is A Lot Faster When It's Not On Fire
The Ford GT apparently shares more with the Ferrari marque it at Le Mans than we thought. Just like the intense, passionate Italian we know and love, the Ford GT, too, is pretty flammable. Burn Baby Burn, Ford-o Inferno During today’s 6 Hours of Nürburgring, a valve stuck open on...

Lewis Hamilton Tells Esteban Gutiérrez That He's Number One With A Finger
There are a few ways that Formula One can inform a driver that there’s faster traffic behind him. One is with the traditional blue flag thrown by trackside marshals. Another, more desperate but more entertaining method, is for the overtaking driver to flip the bird as he blows by the...

Save The Porsches!
Save The Porsches!
Marc Lieb, why must we have this pointless Porsche-on-Porsche violence? Why? Why? Stewards at today’s 6 Hours of Nürburgring placed the blame on Lieb in the LMP1-class No. 2 Porsche 919 for hitting the much slower LM GTE Am-class No. 88 Porsche 911 RSR of Abu Dhabi-Proton Racing that was...

Drivers Replace Fist Fighting With Car Fighting At Certifiably Insane NASCAR Track
The phrase “short tracks, short tempers” is a classic in racing, and there isn’t a more perfect example of than a recent incident from —a wreck for the lead, retaliation under caution, and a grand finale of two cars smacking each other in the infield. This, everyone, is as authentic...

Half Of The Formula One Grid Technically Ran Too Slow In Qualifying
Conditions were so nasty at the Hungaroring yesterday that 11 drivers of the 22-car Formula One Hungarian Grand Prix field set qualifying times slower than 107% the time of Rosberg’s leading 1:33.302 lap, reports . Under F1's 107% rule, anyone who qualifies that slowly gets pulled from the race. Needless...
