Jeff Gordon is having the best retirement ever. Not only did he for Dale Earnhardt Jr. in NASCAR, but now he’s going to join at the 24 Hours of Daytona, reports . I’m not sure Gordon’s truly “retired” from anything, but whatever he’s doing, it sounds like fun.

Between the cool beast of a brand-new Cadillac DPi-V.R and its drivers, Wayne Taylor Racing will have the dream team at Daytona. Gordon joins Wayne Taylor Racing’s full-season Jordan and Ricky Taylor as well as their longtime long-race buddy Max “The Axe” Angelelli.

This isn’t Gordon’s first time racing with the Wayne Taylor crew. Gordon told Road & Track of his fond memories of his only prior stab at the 24 Hours of Daytona in 2007:

I really enjoyed racing in the 24 Hours of Daytona in 2007 with Max, Wayne and Jan [Magnussen]. When I announced I would no longer be competing full-time in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, my hope was that I would get an opportunity like this to compete again in such a prestigious event–with Konica Minolta and Wayne Taylor Racing–with the hopes of winning it this time. I know that Ricky and Jordan are super-fast, and I believe it will be a very strong combination.

Where’s Jordan “Reunited and it feels so good...” when you need him?

As Road & Track notes, this is a win-win situation for Cadillac that ensures everyone will be watching the roll-out of their first racing prototype since 2002. Gordon hasn’t left the spotlight even when he hasn’t been driving Earnhardt’s car, having become a regular part of the Fox Sports NASCAR commentary team.

All eyes will be on the NASCAR legend no matter what he does, be it racing more in his retirement from racing or (hopefully) scratching a belly.
