The New F1 Halo Doesn't Look That Bad For Drivers, After All That
The New F1 Halo Doesn't Look That Bad For Drivers, After All That-June 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:16

Formula 1's new for driver protection still looks about as dumb as conceivably possible from the outside, but finally there’s POV video to show what it’s like from the driver’s perspective. Watch and judge for yourself, but this doesn’t look too bad.

Mercedes released this video of the only view the new W09 will have: staring at an empty track in front of it.

Williams also released this video of test driver Robert Kubica from a higher, wider view. (I’m so happy to be saying that. It’s good to see Kubica in an F1 car with regularity again.)

If you want to understand why F1 has a halo, watch this video going over all the tests they did of shooting a full tire at these things head on.

If only they could figure out how to put a windscreen on these things and make them look less hideous, I’d be happy. I’d propose something like the Renault-Alpine A442A bubble canopy that was open top and bottom, but I’m a moron.

If you don’t know 18-year-old Koyama Miki (小山美姫), you’re far from alone, but it’s definitely ignorance you should correct. She’s in the Japanese Formula Four Championships and, like a lot of young racers, she’s gunning for a slot in F1. She’s good enough that Honda just let her thrash an...

British Racing Was Born From Rich Guys Who Just Wanted To Go Fast
British Racing Was Born From Rich Guys Who Just Wanted To Go Fast
What do you think of when you think of British motorsports? Jaguars, Aston Martins, Lotuses, and Morgans doing fast things? Loud noises? Beautiful shades of green paint? The British motorsports scene wasn’t always like that. Historically, extremely strict British speed limits made it very difficult for any kind of motor...

Racing School Kicked My Ass
Racing School Kicked My Ass
I just got back from the Lucas Oil School of Racing’s two-day basic course at Lime Rock Park. While I have transformed into a driving god (I think), I am exhausted, banged-up, and broken. These are the bruises incurred, and I wouldn’t trade them for the world. ( Lucas Oil...
