Japan’s wonderfully insane Super GT series, which is famous for giving us the world’s and all manner of , has a new competitor: the In dark, sinister naked carbon fiber, it also looks like it wants to destroy the world.

I can’t quit looking it in the face. Is it some kind of transformer? An alien species here to destroy us and take over planet Earth? Some kind of giant creepy insect-o-bot?

The brand spankin’ new NSX has actually been in Super GT for quite some time—even when it was unobtanium to the general public. So, the newest incarnation of it has been reworked for 2017.

Instead of the production car’s 3.5-liter twin-turbo hybrid V6 powertrain, the NSX-GT packs a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four cylinder engine and a paddle-shifted constant mesh gearbox, per . Constant mesh is a style of transmission more often found in motorcycles, where the gears are always mated and spinning.

The new engine also produces more power than the production car: over 600 HP. Best of all, the feather-light car weighs just over 2,313 lbs.

It’ll need every bit of that power in Super GT’s top GT500 class, where the reptilian looking NSX-GT will face off against a dominant Godzilla—the mighty Nissan GT-R.
