This Gorgeous Film Shows What It's Like To Drive The Legendary Porsche 718-June 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:32

Porsche and put racing legend Derek Bell in the 1960 Porsche 718 around with a cameo from the new , pointing out once again that we humans got fat and lazy.

The Porsche 718 was the nicest Abarth Stuttgart has ever built, and chassis 718-041 is the most famous example of them all, having won the famed Targa Florio in 1960.

The last time I saw Derek Bell, we were , and he was just about to jump into a Gulf livery 917 fresh out of . He was more than familiar with that, but when it comes to a car powered by a 1600cc air-cooled flat-four with a power output of 170 horses, he gets just as curious as you would in a 917.

What’s more, Bell has never driven around Sicily’s Targa Florio either, so experiencing its 800 corners somewhere above 7,000 RPM in this tiny car must have been a real blast.

You know who else was there? Jim Glickenhaus.

His Ferrari P 3/4 (#0846) was driven around the course by Nino Vacarella, winner of the 1965, 1971 and 1975 Targo Florio as well as the 1965 Le Mans 24 Hours.

We will catch up with very soon at the Nürburgring 24, but Jim and the Ferrari will also be at Le Mans, where James May will drive a Ford GT40 next to him for the former Top Gear trio’s upcoming Amazon show.

In other news, I would really like to stop being poor.

Rallycross Driver Spins, Somehow Turns It Into A Pass For The Lead
Rallycross is one of those fast-paced disciplines of motorsport that can take the viewer through about 11 emotions in a single turn, and this FIA World Rallycross Championship video is a great example of that—driver attempts a daring pass, spins sideways in front of the field and somehow saves it...

Forget A White Limo, This Is The Coolest Car To Leave Your Wedding In
Off-road racing legend just got hitched (congratulations BJ!) and stuck the traditional “JUST MARRIED” sign and cans-on-strings to the 900 horsepower racing truck he’ll pilot this season. Because bad-ass. Baldwin , which means they just got a whole lot more fun to watch. Look at how stoked those kids are...

The Best Way To Race Is To Race Everything
The Best Way To Race Is To Race Everything
Most of us would be very tempted to strike a deal with Lucifer himself if we could go racing every weekend. For Tyler McQuarrie, all he had to do was find the right sponsor. He’ll be racing in six different series this year (which is insane and unheard of) and...

There’s a bit of drama going on amongst the family members of the late Dale Earnhardt Sr., and it’s not over where Thanksgiving dinner will be held—it’s over who has the rights to use the Earnhardt name. The former NASCAR driver’s widow, Teresa Earnhardt, wants to keep the name from...

Hot Dog Hot Rod Laps Hot Track At Circuit Of The Americas
Here’s why we love the Oscar Meyer Wienermobile in a nutshell. Back in April, it went for a teeter-tottery drive around Circuit of the Americas. Why? Well, why not? It’s a traveling wiener with a big, smiling bun. The better question is: why wouldn’t you put that on a race...
