This Sideways Microbus Out Road Racing Will Reinvigorate Your Entire Being-March 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:21

Race cars are great. Quirky race cars, whether that be or on purpose, are even better. Just look at this sideways Volkswagen Type 2 Microbus camper running around a 24 Hours of LeMons track, made by the same guy who once .

But it wasn’t actually the Microbus doing the “running” part, just like a 1985 Toyota Van Wagon made the old chopper go. This sideways 1976 Microbus shell, made by LeMons shitbox series legend and named the “Trippy Tippy Hippy Van,” is mounted on a 1988 Volkswagen Rabbit and powered by a 1.8-liter GTI engine. Speedycop said the engine makes about 120 horsepower and will go from 0 to 60 in about eight seconds. Its speed caps off at around 100 mph.

But never mind the power figures. You just have to watch this thing. Speedycop said this sideways trooper managed 224 laps around a two-mile road course recently, and it’s obvious that all of them must have been delightful to see:

The world isn’t all that bad sometimes.

Ferrari Formula One driver Sebastian Vettel complained of a burning sensation down below during Free Practice 2 in Mexico only to discover that his car’s onboard fire extinguisher had gone off, reports. The cause was a loose screw. Naturally, I’m writing this for the brilliant headline possibilities. “Something burst. Something...

Nailing The Pass Of The Century Can Land You On The Reigning Champions' Team
If you’re the reigning 2017 IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship champs with an open seat to fill for 2018, you’ve got to fill that hole wisely. Fortunately, the driver behind the (if not decade or maybe more), Renger Van der Zande, was available. , whose ludicrously fast, Taylor-brother-centric lineup dominated...

NASCAR Fan Tries To Fight Denny Hamlin After Insane Martinsville Finish
I’m not sure what was crazier—Denny Hamlin crashing out Chase Elliott to momentarily snatch the lead in the last laps of today’s NASCAR Cup playoff race at Martinsville Speedway, or the final restart that resulted in most of the field behind the leaders crashing. Then a fan tried to pick...

Here's What Happened Inside My Badly Overheating Volkswagen 411
Fortunately, it looks as though the engine in my Lemons-racing Volkswagen 411 wasn’t damaged as badly as . Two cylinders had normal, good compression! But the two cylinders on the passenger side did not, and one cylinder with no compression at all was thoroughly mangled. The more I learn about...
