U.S. Grand Prix Qualifying Finally Happens, Nico Rosberg Takes Pole
U.S. Grand Prix Qualifying Finally Happens, Nico Rosberg Takes Pole-May 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:37

After the most exciting thing we saw on track at Circuit of the Americas yesterday was a couple of school buses due to rain, Formula One finally got most of a qualifying session in and Mercedes is on top with Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton.

The in the rain, and F1 managed to get Q1 and Q2 in before calling off the third for — you guessed it — weather conditions. This is the second U.S. Grand Prix pole in a row for Rosberg, and he said he’s “fine” with the weather outside (not totally sure I, or my currently soaked pants and umbrella, can totally agree on that).

“It was difficult out there with aquaplaning,” Rosberg said. “You just really struggle to have control of the car. It’s been quite challenging.”

Starting after the Mercedes duo on grid are Red Bull Racing Renault drivers Daniel Ricciardo and Daniil Kvyat, and both Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen will receive a 10-place grid penalty for using a fifth engine this season. Vettel and Raikkonen qualified fifth and eighth prior to penalty assessment.

The Historic Masters F1 cars are out on the circuit at the moment (and they’re actually moving in this rain), so we’ll see how that goes. We’re scheduled to get a race in at 2:30 p.m. ET today on NBC.

Williams May Need To Hire Big Bird As A Consultant On Colors
Williams’ Valtteri Bottas had a bit of an oops during the Belgian Grand Prix. They had three yellow-banded soft tires and one white-banded medium. Mixing compounds is not allowed, plus Pirelli makes it really easy to spot when you’ve got the wrong one via color codes. Perhaps Williams needs to...

Sebastian Vettel's Belgian Grand Prix Ended With A [Tire] Bang
Ferrari tried a single-pit-stop strategy with Sebastian Vettel’s car for the Formula One Belgian Grand Prix today that didn’t ultimately work out, as you can see. One of Vettel’s Pirellis popped in spectacular fashion on the next to last lap. VETTEL-TIRE Vettel was running in third as he was fending...

Dude is a beast. Verstappen may be saddled with the same unreliable Renault power unit that keeps...

Did Formula One Ignore Its Own Rule On Track Limits?
Did Formula One Ignore Its Own Rule On Track Limits?
The many drivers who cut the corner at Raidillon this morning during the Belgian Grand Prix raised more than a few eyebrows this morning. It took turn 4 from being a corner to, well, much less of a corner. Not going around the curbing seemed to be a fast line....
