V8 Supercars Turned Into A Sliding Mess As Torrential Rains Poured In
V8 Supercars Turned Into A Sliding Mess As Torrential Rains Poured In-March 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:47

The Sydney NRMA 500 at the Olympic Park is already one of the most challenging street courses on the V8 Supercars schedule. Adding to that challenge today was a torrential downpour that engulfed the course in darkness within minutes, causing the race to end under a red flag.

This race went from "oh, it's just a little wet" to dark, stormy monsoon-like conditions in no time, forcing competitors who opted to stick it out on dry tires to tiptoe their way back into the pits.

Some met the wall on their way back. Street courses are particularly unforgiving in bad weather because the wall is right there. Yo dawg, we heard you like walls, so we put Wall into the wall...waaaaait, that's not right.

One car even got stuck out on slicks as the rain started to become so heavy that it was getting hard to see.

Still, the surreal, hazy world of V8s in the rain makes this a must-see video. Walls of precipitation punctuated with headlamps and exhaust backfire looks pretty cool, even if it is a bit dangerous.

The race was red flagged shortly after the video ends, giving Jamie Whincup the win in his Red Bull Racing Australian Holden Commodore.
