Watch A Rally Driver Break Down Some Classic Movie Driving Scenes-January 2024

Anyone who doesn’t live under a rock already know that cinematic driving scenes and stunts don’t exactly make sense in the real world (but, I mean, who goes to the movies to feel like they’re watching real life anyway?). But if you’ve ever wondered what it would be like for an actual, professional driver to break down some of the more classic driving scenes in recent film history, then, my friends, you are in luck,

Friend of Jalopnik and two-wheel-drive Rally America champion Wyatt Knox from Team O’Neil Rally School has teamed up with to break down the feasibility of some iconic driving, racing, and crash scenes in everything from Back to the Future to The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. And it’s one hell of a fun watch:

(If you came for a breakdown of any Baby Driver scenes, then I am very sorry to say that you’ll be disappointed. Hook us up with the good stuff next time, Wyatt.)

I love these breakdowns because I didn’t even really notice any of this stuff the first time around. The fact that there wasn’t actually a driver in one of the cop cars that crashed in Transporter 2? Didn’t even notice it—that’s legit. A Mustang GT versus a Chrysler 300 in Drive (truly, one of the best movies of all time)? I don’t care if the Mustang would blow the doors off its competitor in real life—it’s a damn good scene, and movie magic (also Ryan Gosling) keeps me from caring.

Treat yourself today. This video is just fun.

Secret Fords And The Story Of The 1980s Ford WRC Car That Never Made It
I’ve been reading a new book that author and car designer Steve Saxty sent over for me to review, , and it’s a great look into the development of Fords that reached production, as well as a bunch that didn’t. Included in that is the story of the infamous...

Let's Listen To Two Very Different Six-Cylinder Engines
Today is a day ending in “y,” which is as good a reason as any to compare the sound between two six-cylinder engines tuned within an inch of their life. The trick is the V6 is the old one and the straight-six is the new one. I am not...

Every Hatchback Should Be Powered By A GSX-R Engine
Every Hatchback Should Be Powered By A GSX-R Engine
Every single compact hatchback on the market needs to be powered by a 1-liter 11,000 rpm Suzuki screamer sitting behind the driver and powering the rear wheels. This is the truest fact in the universe, and I will not hear any argument to the contrary. This Citroën is the purest...

Aussie Supercars Is Setting The Standard For Streaming Motorsport
There are so many different streaming platforms these days that nobody seems to be able to agree where their motorsport product should be broadcast. Terrestrial television is a non-starter, and cable goes out to far too few households these days, so what is a series to do? Hell, NBC...
