Racing icon did some hot laps in the 2020 Toyota Supra at Fuji International Speedway for a Toyota video. And while his commentary isn’t particularly interesting, I think there’s some truth in his facial expressions.

I mean, you can’t expect an objective road test of a Toyota on a Toyota YouTube channel from a guy wearing a Toyota suit. And it’s really hard to be articulate while you’re driving a car like this, anyway. But when Alonso sets up to go deep on the brakes, at about, 01:25, it looks to me like his thought process goes from trepidation to being earnestly impressed.

“Hopefully you don’t use [the brakes] as much as that ever,” he says to the camera after aggressively decelerating, “but in case you need it I think they are there.”

You can watch nine other professional drivers you might know do a similar song and dance in Toyota’s . It’s actually a pretty cool idea for a promo, and they are fun to watch.

But besides the braking reaction, I think my favorite part of Alonso’s clip was his advice about car buying at the end: “Follow your instinct.” If a car makes you happy, that’s the one to get.
