Watch: The Hardest And Most Notorious Dirt Bike Race In The World
Watch: The Hardest And Most Notorious Dirt Bike Race In The World-February 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:10:51

In a move to explore more racing series, our household (all two of us) has started to follow SuperCross. I admittedly know little about it, but I’ve been recording and watching races as they happen in order to learn. While SuperCross has its own raw fun to watch, it didn’t take long to find a new love, one that takes SuperCross and tells them to hold this large, tapped keg of beer, because it is insane. There are just too few other adjectives I could use to describe it. Sincerely though, if you want to on two wheels in the dirt, you enter the FIM Hard Enduro World Championship, and specifically, its manic race: the Erzbergrodeo in Austria.

1800 riders – yes, up to 1800 riders travel to Eisenerz, Austria to take on this Enduro race. This poor little Austrian mining town fills to the brim with tourists and competitors one weekend every year. , for two days, hopefuls will take to the mine’s grueling trails in hopes of qualifying for the big race, known as the Red Bull Hare Scramble, on Sunday. Only are able to compete in that final race, taking on 35km or just over 21 miles of trails to win.

That yellow ribbon-looking thing above is the track layout. Riders climb up the steep mountainous area, taking on several near-impossible looking trials, where sometimes there are even rules that allow a fellow racer to assist you in your climbs, and in some, you’re on your own and good luck. And sure, everything sounds overtly promising when a section of the track is literally called “The Green Hell.”

After watching the video I shared above, I now have another race I want to add to my race attendance bucket list. I want to experience the circus that is this Erzbergrodeo enduro race and take every ludicrous moment in, while cheering like hell for the brave and talented soul that somehow makes it across the finish line first.

Oh, and if you have some more time, I suggest you watch the video below as well. You know it’s good times when the first words heard on screen are, “A foreboding mountain… .”

You’re welcome.

Spin Leads To Terrifying Airborne Somersault Crash In Indy 500 Practice
Spin Leads To Terrifying Airborne Somersault Crash In Indy 500 Practice
Helio Castroneves has won the Indy 500 three times. He’s blessed at the speedway. But today the speedway bit back. Thankfully, Helio is ok. Castroneves got loose on track and backed the car into the wall in the short chute between turn one and turn two. That got some lift,...

If You Had A Ferrari 360, Would You Rally It?
No, not those stupid highway speeding crashfests dudes do in sticker-covered Bentleys. I’m talking about stage rally competition. That’s what this guy did, and it’s awesome. You’re looking at Yeray Lemes with codriver Samuel Vega at the 2013 running of the Rally Isla de Lanzarote in the Canary Islands. Here’s...

This Honda Civic Race Car Eats BMWs For Breakfast
The most interesting car to me is the one that entirely defies expectations and at the for the earlier this month I was shocked one morning to see a bright orange-and-white Civic hatch tear its way through a line of BMWs in a couple of laps. Just watch the video....

Further Proof Stadium Super Trucks Are The Pinnacle Of Badassness
Sure, Keegan Kincaid took the checkered flag at the Stadium Super Trucks race in Adelaide, but the real winner – just for sheer badassitude – was Sheldon Creed. Creed was battling it out with Robby Gordon during the final lap of round 3 of the series when Gordon closed the...

Simona de Silvestro Escapes Unharmed After Her IndyCar Ignites On Fire
Simona de Silvestro’s cars have an unfortunate history of catching fire at the Indianapolis 500, it seems. Today’s practice session fire was her third fire in five visits to the famous race. Fortunately, she was able to hop out of the car before flames caught up to her seat inside....

Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus Will Race With The Jalopnik Bump At The N24
I drove all night to make sure I got to the Ring in time for the Jalopnik bump(s) to be added livery before it was shown to the public in the nearby village of Adenau. That’s at least ten extra horsepower right there, success is inevitable. Jalopnik stickers , that’s...
