Weekend Motorsports Roundup, April 26-27, 2014
Weekend Motorsports Roundup, April 26-27, 2014-March 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:50

Welcome to the Jalopnik Weekend Motorsports Roundup, where we let you know what's going on in the world of racing, where you can see it, and where you can talk about it all in one convenient place. Where else would you want to spend your weekend?

Formula One and NASCAR Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series both take a break this weekend, but there's still Sprint Cup and Indy. And while you may think that Sprint Cup and an Indy race in Alabama would just mean nothing but ovals, that couldn't be further from the truth.

That's because the Indy race in Alabama is at the Barber Motorsports Park, a tight little road course that was once even suggested a test track for the doomed USF1 team. And what makes it one of the more interesting race tracks, at least in America, is the way it undergoes elevation changes.

And no, I'm not talking about one little hill here or there. It's as if the entire course is caught in a state of flux, undulating through the bends. With all the weight of the car constantly shifting throughout the race, it definitely tests driver skill more than some other venues.

So watch it when you can.

Here’s a look at MSR Houston from this week, a road course south of the city that has hosted most of the races I’ve done. Much of it is underwater. While getting to the track is one of the lowest priorities right now—far below making sure everyone in the area...

Formula One's Never-Ending Grid Penalties Need To Stop
For Formula One teams struggling with reliability issues, qualifying can feel like the place where you can run the session, but the results don’t matter. Grid penalties will send you to the back anyway. We’re not even done with practice at Monza and four cars already have grid penalties. It’s...

This Lego Formula One Car Could Probably Last Longer Than Fernando Alonso’s McLaren-Honda
That headline was mean. I’m mean. I’m sorry, I don’t know why I’m like this. Maybe someone teased me too much as a child. This video showing how Lego built a life-size replica of a Ferrari Formula One car isn’t even that great, I just wanted a chance to be...
