Weekend Motorsports Roundup, Aug. 8-9, 2015
Weekend Motorsports Roundup, Aug. 8-9, 2015-July 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:40

Welcome to the Jalopnik , where we let you know what’s going on in the world of racing, where you can see it, and where you can talk about it all in one convenient place. Where else would you want to spend your weekend?

Whoa. Whoa. Wait a minute. Is that a NASCAR race car TURNING RIGHT?! What sorcery is this?!???!??

That’s right: it’s time for NASCAR to make an oh-so-rare but ever-wonderful road course outing, this time at the lovely and wonderful Watkins Glen. Unless you have a deep-seated philosophical hatred of the cars themselves, this is one of the don’t miss races of the year. It’s not something NASCAR does all that often, hence the concept of a “road course ringer” sometimes coming in from squiggly-racing-land to drive a car for these rare weekends.

Of course, all the top teams have their own dudes in the car because the battle for a Chase (the loony playoff-style manner where NASCAR picks a Sprint Cup winner) entry is on as well. So, don’t expect Boris Said in the number 18 “Camry.”

Everyting about Watkins Glen is awesome. NASCAR on Watkins Glen is hilarious and good. There’s even rain tires in case of un-NASCAR-like weather. Yes. Rain tires. Mwahahahahaha.

Meanwhile, much of IMSA’s suite of series, from Porsche GT3 Cup all the way to Tudor United SportsCar, are at another iconic road course: Road America. We’re all waiting on baited breath to hear IndyCar finally officially announce the addition of Road America to their schedule, but in the meantime, let’s watch some dadgummed sportscars.

It’s wet up in Elkhart Lake. Ryan Eversley is in a Honda Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge car and . Everything about Road America is good (and delicious; beware the curds and eggers).

Over in two-wheel-land, MotoGP is back in America! It’s Indianapolis weekend for the premiere motorcycle series in the world. This, too, is good and wonderful.

Bonus: we’ll post the English-language stream of the Super GT round at Fuji a little later today. Ever wish you could keep up with that crazy series full of heavily-winged GT cars? Y’know, in a language you speak? Here you go. If you’re not keen on staying up ‘til 1:30 in the morning, you can access the recording on to watch in the middle of the day Sunday, too.

This is just a ridiculously good weekend for motorsports. If you’re not racing yourself, you have no excuse not to camp out in front of the TV all day Sunday.

If you know about anything we missed, or about good livestreams out there, let us know in the comments below.
