Weekend Motorsports Roundup, July 2-3, 2016
Weekend Motorsports Roundup, July 2-3, 2016-November 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:31

Welcome to the Jalopnik , where we let you know what’s going on in the world of racing, where you can see it, and where you can talk about it all in one convenient place. Where else would you want to spend your weekend?

If you didn’t have enough festivities to fill up your weekend, there is so much racing on this weekend that your DVR may just explode (if you need to use it, that is). That lineup includes a few streams as well, free of charge.

Formula One is at Red Bull Ring for the Austrian Grand Prix this weekend, and Ferrari again . The device will , despite Lewis Hamilton on using them. Come next year, he’ll against the wishes of head honcho Bernie Ecclestone.

Also on the side of the pond that isn’t celebrating independence this weekend, the FIA Formula E Championship will hold its season-ending doubleheader in London. The top two in the championship race, Lucas Di Grassi and Sébastien Buemi, have just one point separating them in the standings. You know what that means—some good, hard, battery-powered racing.

The Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup will be at the Nürburgring for the weekend, and there’s a YouTube live stream linked below that will broadcast the race—on-board cameras and all. MAVTV will cover a couple of hours from the FIA World Rally Championship event this weekend as well.

NASCAR is back to plate racing for their Fourth of July weekend festivities, with the Sprint Cup Series running a Saturday-night show. Red Bull Global Rallycross is a few states north for a doubleheader in North Carolina, and the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship is even farther north in Michigan.

There are also a few live showings on this weekend, including IMSA support races—the main race from Watkins Glen will be on television—and the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series.

If that isn’t enough, there’s plenty of tape-delayed coverage on the schedule as well. If you know of any other events or live streams going on this weekend, feel free to let us know in the comments below.

Alfa Romeo Is Back In F1 With Sauber
Alfa Romeo Is Back In F1 With Sauber
Few car companies have more motorsports history than Alfa Romeo. Enzo Ferrari actually got his start running its racing team in the 1930s, and even today Ferrari’s Formula One cars still carry the Alfa logo. But for more than 30 years now, Alfa’s been absent from the top tier of...

Hey BMW, Go To World Rallycross
Hey BMW, Go To World Rallycross
Dearest BMW, purveyor of be-roundeled four- and two-wheel goods. There is a magical land where cars fly through the air and bounce off each other like angry little pinballs! It’s World Rallycross, and if you’re thinking about it, you should do it. Two-time DTM champ Timo Scheider confirmed to that...

Reigning Five-Time WRC Champ Will Keep Racing With Rally's Biggest Underdog
Normally, Dominant Rally Man Stays With Winning Team wouldn’t be much of a story, but when that team is the only non-manufacturer squad in the World Rally Championship, it’s an off-season miracle. Lovable rally underdogs M-Sport announced today that five-time WRC champ Sébastien Ogier and his codriver Julien Ingrassia will...

This Little Front-Wheel-Drive Renault Race Car Is A Donut Machine
Be surprised: the tidiest donuts I’ve seen in ages are from a front-wheel-drive car. Behold one Renault Clio IV RS 200 EDC smoking its front meats in a set of amazing pirouettes. Man, there are ballet dancers clumsier than this car. The Clio IV RS 200 EDC is the racing...

Stop Trying To Make The Women-Only F1 Series Happen
Stop Trying To Make The Women-Only F1 Series Happen
Here’s some exhausting garbage about women in motorsport to ruin your day: organizers are still trying to make that ridiculous happen in 2019. They’ve scrapped the goofy “SHE Championship” name, but it’s still the same infuriating, patronizing idea that no one really needs. The series plans to run a short,...

Alexander Rossi Wants Competitor Conor Daly To Find An IndyCar Ride Because Their Rent Is Due
Sometimes, people want the best for others out of the kindness and love in their hearts. Other times, it’s because time’s come to pay up. That seems to be the case with Verizon IndyCar Series driver Alexander Rossi, who (probably jokingly) said Tuesday that he really wants fellow driver Conor...
