Weekend Motorsports Roundup, May 18-19, 2013-May 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:50

Welcome to the Jalopnik Weekend Motorsports Roundup, where we let you know what’s going on in the world of racing, where you can see it, and where you can talk about it all in one convenient place. Where else would you want to spend your weekend?

Now we’re finally getting into the swing of things. The late-spring/early-summer part of the year is one of the peaks of the racing season, and we are certainly climbing to that mountaintop. We’ve got a whole lot on tap with many big events, so let’s not miss a beat and get right into it, shall we?

If you like your cars going around in circles, of course there’s NASCAR, but let’s be honest, there’s always NASCAR. If you like your circle-racing a bit faster than usual, this Saturday is Indy. Not the race itself, that comes next week. Today is qualifying for the Indianapolis 500, AKA Pole Day, and in practice cars are already topping 225 MPH.

There’s also one of the biggest races this weekend on one of the biggest tracks in the world, if you like your cars traversing vandalized country lanes in the German countryside rather than paved-over brickyards in the American Midwest. That’s right, it’s the Nurburgring 24 Hours. There should be plenty of can’t-miss action there, especially with its first-ever hydrogen-powered entrant, courtesy of Aston Martin, and you should be able to watch it all .

If you hate Germany but can’t figure out whether you want to say howdy or g’day, you’re weird but luckily there’s Australian V8 Supercars this weekend. No, not in Australia, but right here in the good old US of A, as they pound around the Circuit of the Americas in Texas.

And if you don’t like German country lanes and you don’t like Indiana bricks and you don’t like circuits in Texas because you’re weird and prefer dirt over real roads? Of course, there’s something for you, too, with there’s Rallycross at X Games Barcelona.

Whew, that sure is an awful lot. Hopefully you don’t have too much planned yet. Please use our new-ish (and still fancy-ish) image annotation tool on the map above to show us races we might have missed, where they're being held, and where we can livestream them. Get it while it's good.

All times Eastern.
