Weekend Motorsports Roundup, Oct. 31-Nov. 1, 2015-March 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:37

Welcome to the Jalopnik , where we let you know what’s going on in the world of racing, where you can see it, and where you can talk about it all in one convenient place. Where else would you want to spend your weekend?

We have got a fun weekend ahead of us, folks. And I’m not talking about Halloween — skip the candy collecting and just buy your own so you don’t have to miss all of the racing this weekend.

Formula One didn’t have too far to travel for its next event, as the series heads down from Texas to Mexico City for the Mexican Grand Prixat the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez circuit. Lewis Hamilton took the race win and his third-career F1 championship in the United States Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas last Sunday, right before . Yes, we’re all as confused as the rest of you as to why they chose this particular path to voice their dislike for each other. Bonus points for entertainment value, though.

Wait, never mind — Hamilton doesn’t need any extra points. He’s a few races early.

F1 isn’t the only place where folks are a bit on edge — Kevin Harvick caused a debate in the NASCAR camp at Talladega Superspeedway last weekend over whether . NASCAR officials ruled to give Harvick no penalties for it on Tuesday. The move ended the race with Joey Logano in the lead, which means Logano swept the entire second round of the Chase for the Sprint Cup (and we thought Hamilton wins a lot! Oh wait, he does). Luckily for the entertainment value of the Chase, the points reset as we start the new round.

The Camping World Truck Series joins the Sprint Cup Series race at Martinsville Speedway this weekend, and the Xfinity Series guys are off until Texas Motor Speedway next week. Truck races at Martinsville never seem to disappoint, so that’s one to tune into — or add to the DVR list — on Saturday.

There’s a pretty good variety of racing this weekend, too. Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing and V8 Supercars get a bit more air time than usual, with more than one (delayed) event showing from each series — including another replay of the Bathurst 1000. Tape-delayed motocross, World Rally Championship and Lamborghini races are on the list, as well as live showings of NHRA’s fifth of six championship rounds and the penultimate FIA World Endurance Championship race of the season.

Thierry Neuville's Rally Car Flies Better Than Most Planes
Thierry Neuville's Rally Car Flies Better Than Most Planes
World Rally Championship driver Thierry Neuville just destroyed the jump record at Colin's Crest during Rally Sweden with a 44-meter tribute to the art of flight. It's so direct. Smooth. Fast. Why go down the hill when you can simply fly over it? That's about 144 feet of glorious, glorious...

The Scale Is Not Tony Stewart's Friend; Weigh-In Mess Causes Black Flag
The Scale Is Not Tony Stewart's Friend; Weigh-In Mess Causes Black Flag
I know a lot of people who are particularly bashful about their weight, but it's something you can't do in NASCAR. You're required to weigh in before practice so that the minimum weight of your car can be determined. Stewart didn't do that before going out for practice for the...

Why Yak Appreciation Day Is The Best Holiday Ever Celebrated On Feb. 14
Tired of all the whining around Valentine's Day years ago, I decided to celebrate the majestic yak on February 14 instead. Turns out, it was a most worthy choice. Do they race chalky-tasting candy hearts or cut flowers that will go limp in a week? Nope. Advantage: yak. If you...

There's Nothing A Honda NSX Onboard From Le Mans Won't Make Better
You. Hey, you. I'm going to skip over that angry sad sack over there mumbling about being forever alone, but you, there, person who accidentally slept through the only open track time all weekend (oops). Yes, you! Watch this NSX race car get flogged around at the 24 Hours of...

Huge Wreck Takes Out Two-Thirds Of The Field At NASCAR Sprint Unlimited
Fourteen cars of the twenty-five-car field were involved in this huge crash during lap 45 of 75 of the Sprint Unlimited preseason exhibition race today. Who said exhibition races weren't exciting? They were lying. Never listen to them again. Once Jamie McMurray lost control of his car due to a...
