Yes, It Is Actually Possible to Get Banned from the Nürburgring for Having a Really Loud Car-May 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:12

Honestly, the Nürburgring feels kind of like one of those tracks where literally anything goes. You can bring just about anything out there for a track day and mess around, spray paint the track if you think you can get away with it—you name it. Aside from outright reckless behavior, it’s hard to imagine getting banned from the Nürburgring.

Well, I am here to report that it is, in fact, possible. And that all it takes is a really loud car.

According to , the offender in question was driving a Nissan GT-R that is technically no longer street legal with the amount of mods it has received. This thing can gain a beastly 760 horsepower—but even more importantly, it makes a hell of a lot of noise. Enough for it to be race-track-illegal too.

See, this thing produces 134 decibels. If that means nothing to you, compare it to this: that’s louder than a . Afterburner included. And almost as loud as the aircraft carrier deck itself.

We’re not just talking loud. We’re taking straight up painful.

I mean, I get it. There’s something kind of satisfying about a loud race car. I spent hours with my Formula SAE team trying to shove our exhaust full of steel wool to dampen the noise because we were too loud to pass tech. To be fair to the Nissan owner, you notice it less when it’s your own car.

The Nissan only made it a few laps before it straight up got banned from the track until it can prove it’s not going to rupture any eardrums.
