Nissan LMP1 Passed Its Crash Test; Roll Hoop Now Good For Barrel Rolls
Nissan LMP1 Passed Its Crash Test; Roll Hoop Now Good For Barrel Rolls-April 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:44

When we last heard an update on the , the car was going to the first two rounds of the World Endurance Championship for further development work. One thing to fix was a front roll hoop that didn't pass the FIA's crash tests. Per Darren Cox in the , that item just passed.

When testing the monocoque earlier this month, the front roll hoop just missed by a little bit, but he reassured us that he would retry with a new chassis the next week. Looks like that new chassis was successful!

The_Rusty_Hub :

What kinds of redesign work must be done after failing an FIA crash test?

Nissan Global Motorsport Director Darren Cox :

Don't tell anyone, but we just passed the re-test of that particular part.

The_Rusty_Hub has been sworn to secrecy on this matter and won't tell a soul, I'm sure, but we're glad to see that the new monocoque design is finally good to go. I'm assuming this means it's good for barrel rolls as FIA tests for race cars are insanely tough, however, I don't recommend trying that with anyone in the car.

That's one less roadblock to getting the new car to the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and we can't wait to see how a car that's completely rethought what an LMP1 should be stacks up against its more conventional counterparts.

Now the Nissan LMP1 team just needs to make the rest of it work and get the entire package ready to race. Given that Darren Cox has been answering Q&A questions from more testing, they've still got quite a lot of work ahead of them.

Audi's All-Conquering American Quattro Mooned The Rest Of The Racetrack
This is the story of why one of the most dominant race cars of the modern era, the IMSA GTO Audi 90 Quattro, had a little doll that mooned other racers. Back in 1989, these Audis were so dominant that one non-Audi competitor made up a “no passing” sticker with...

How I Learned To Love NASCAR In A Mini Cooper
How I Learned To Love NASCAR In A Mini Cooper
I have definitely knocked NASCAR a few times in the past with all of the lame cliches: “It’s just a circle,” “It’s not complicated enough,” and, “No, I’ve never been sexually attracted to my cousin.” But I’ve seen the error of my ways, and it took a front-wheel drive 228...

Why We Love The Original McLaren F1 So Very Much
Part of the reason why we all love the original so much, and so much more than so many other automobiles to hold the ‘fastest car in the world’ title has nothing to do with the 1990s legend’s speed, or cost, or rarity. It’s that the thing proved itself on...

Make Your Teeth Shatter With This Brutally Rough IndyCar Onboard
Ah, the hard streets of Toronto. While they’re most famous for producing Degrassi stars who rap, they’re also kinda rough, man. Physically, I mean. There’s no better illustration of just how bumpy they can be than strapping a camera on James Hinchcliffe’s IndyCar and wondering if he shook out a...
