Ask Nissan Motorsport Head Darren Cox Anything You Want
Ask Nissan Motorsport Head Darren Cox Anything You Want-May 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:44

Nissan has been a busy company lately, both with their ongoing GT Academy program as well as their crazy World Endurance Championship , the debut of which has been pushed back to the 24 Hours of Le Mans. We'll let you ask what's going on with that for the next hour or so with Nismo head Darren Cox.

Cox serves as Global Motorsport Director for Nissan, and the folks at Nismo have been responsible for the most radically different LMP1-class race car we've seen in years. Only problem: that completely new design needs a lot of extra work to get it up to speed and ready for Le Mans.

The 24 Hours of Le Mans, of course, is the biggest event on WEC's schedule, so they're focusing their prototype efforts on . They're furiously working on that now, testing until they get it all in working order.

You know what's hard? Building a race car. You know what's harder? Building a fundamentally new…

This focus on Le Mans certainly hasn't kept Nissan from going on to more interesting and wonderful projects in racing. In addition to completely rethinking LMP1 design, Nissan has continued to grow its GT Academy program. Not only will GT Academy grads be at Le Mans, but they've just extended the program over . Something tells me that won't be the final stop in Nissan's quest to develop talent out of astonishingly good Gran Turismo racers.

How effective is the GT Academy, where Nissan picks the best gamers from Gran Turismo to train and…

That's a whole lot of Nismo goin' on. Want to know specifics? Curious as to what cool tech might be coming to Nismo-badged Nissans you can buy in the future? We've got the man who would know here for the next hour as he takes a break from yet more tests on the LMP1. Ask away!

[: Darren Cox had to go, but according to his , he'll be answering more questions on the Twitter account tomorrow.]

Science Experiments And Climate Tourism With Extreme E
Science Experiments And Climate Tourism With Extreme E
It was raining as I, along with the rest of Extreme E’s Arctic X Prix crew, first stepped onto Greenland’s ice sheet. It was a rare occurrence, some of our local guides told us, something they’ve only seen a handful of times in their lives, but not impossible. What...

Extreme E's Arctic X Prix Qualifying Characterized By Frequent Car Failure
The first qualifying session kicked off with the slowest team from Friday’s practices session starting first. That meant Veloce Racing hit the track, with the two drivers completing successful runs and immediately topping the charts. That would prove to be a rare feat in a fraught qualifying session, with...

This Day In History: American F1 Champion Phil Hill dies
Phil Hill didn’t seem like the type of guy who would become a successful race car driver. As he put it in The Cruel Sport, “I’m in the wrong business. I don’t want to beat anybody, I don’t want to be the big hero. I’m a peace-loving man, basically.”...

Touring Extreme E's Arctic X Prix Track
Driving to Extreme E’s Arctic X Prix track from Kangerlussuaq, Greenland means you descend upon it from above. The paddock, start, and finish of the 5-mile (8.1-kilometer) circuit takes place in a sandy scar carved out of the tundra by a glacier that would have run through the mountains...

Kyle Larson Takes NASCAR Cup Series Regular Season Victory
Hendrick Motorsports No. 5 driver Kyle Larson has made one hell of a comeback after his enforced absence from the NASCAR Cup Series after his usage of a racial slur. Since his return, Larson has scored five wins and nine other top-five finishes — and that saw him take...
