Weekend Motorsports Roundup, November 30 - December 1, 2013-December 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:50

Welcome to the Jalopnik Weekend Motorsports Roundup, where we let you know what's going on in the world of racing, where you can see it, and where you can talk about it all in one convenient place. Where else would you want to spend your weekend?

There you sit, still stuffed with turkey and turkey leftovers, in the barren, wasteland that is the country once known as America (#1!). You can barely lift the remote, let alone actually rise from the couch. So why not sit and watch some racing?

As this weekend does, technically, bring us into the depths of December, there's not a whole bunch of the live stuff going on. The replays we do have, however, seem to be masterfully curated.

First up is the Silk Way Rally, which is kind of like the famous Dakar Rally in that it has a lot of big trucks slogging through the ends of the Earth, but is unlike the Dakar Rally in that it is entirely run through Russia. This year's Silk Way Rally was run from Moscow to Astrakhan, a city world famous for its voting fraud in the last mayoral election, according to . I may have won my school's Geography Bee twice, my Astrakhan trivia is a bit rusty, so... sorry, I guess. According to , though, it does have one restaurant, so there's that.

Astrakhan natives, feel free to chime in with your local sights and sounds in the comments.

If road rallies through forested Russia aren't your thing, and you crave naught but sand and heat and sand, there's the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, which is another rally, but this time through the sands of the United Arab Emirates. Should be fun.

We've also got replays of Australian V8 Supercars and the FIA GT Series, and those are always swell. Seriously, some of the best racing around.

If there is some live racing near you, please do let us know where it is, and where we can catch the race. Help a petrol-headed brother out.

We know there's been a few site changes recently, so in the interests of comfort and familiarity we'll be keeping the races in the body of the posts. Of course, please use our image annotation tool on the map above to show us races we might have missed, where they're being held, and where we can livestream them.

All times Eastern.

British Drift Championship: Lots of Oppo
British Drift Championship: Lots of Oppo
Lydden Hill hosted the start of the British Drift Championship this weekend, and RWS Motorsport was there to capture all the delightfully sideways action. I think I’m in love with that white and purple drift wagon. Yes. Love. ...

Here's A Supercut Of All The Craziest Vehicles People Put On The 'Ring
The Nürburgring is near and dear to our hearts as a racetrack, but let’s not forget the fact that it’s technically a one-way public toll road. Do you have a street-legal vehicle? It can probably go on the ‘ring. Here’s a compilation of all the craziest conveyances people take on...

2014 Nurburgring 24 Hours In Photos
Last year, TFritch worked as a crew chief on Rotek Racing’s Audi TT-RS. If you’ve ever wondered what the Nürburgring 24 Hours is like, take a look. Between the 24 Hours itself and the Classic race that runs with it, I’m not sure I’d ever want to leave. ...

Let's Just Call Him The Wizard Of Ozz Because His Car Control Is Magic
This weekend is the Long Beach Grand Prix, where IndyCar, Pirelli World Challenge and select classes from United SportsCar take to the streets of Long Beach and try not to eat a concrete barrier. How do you handle a car that just wants to oversteer and/or spin on every corner...

Sorry, Pastor Maldonado, Formula One Is Not A Rally
Sorry, Pastor Maldonado, Formula One Is Not A Rally
I have to give Pastor Maldonado’s detour through the gravel trap some credit here: the Lotus Formula One driver holds it together and keeps it out of the wall. Crash counter: . Perhaps the Venezuelan is missing out on his one true calling: rally. So far in Bahrain, Maldonado isn’t...
