What Does The Nürburgring Look Like In Reverse?
What Does The Nürburgring Look Like In Reverse?-July 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:37

We’ve all seen eleven trillion billion laps of the Nürburgring Nordschleife, but they’re all usually in the same direction. What does it look like in the other direction? Participants in a special stage of the Rallye Köln-Ahrweiler got a chance to find out.

Welcome to , a feature where we spend that pesky time between races looking at awesome footage from inside the car.

Here’s an onboard from driver Patrick Simon and codriver Olli Martini. The lap looks much like it does in the regular direction. Faster traffic , and slower traffic signals to the right when they know they’re being approached. A broken down car sits on the side of the track.

That being said, it’s pretty freaky when you recognize a corner and see this car going the wrong way into it!

Several other bits give it away that this isn’t the usual direction, such as the openings in the wall that have the track’s service vehicles facing the drivers, not sitting angled into traffic in a more protected manner from oncoming cars.

There’s also a chicane added in the middle of a lengthy downhill section, as cars pick up more speed than usual taking the usually uphill portion in the opposite direction.

Most of all, it looks like these two are having a blast trying to keep their classic Porsche moving forward as quickly as possible. Who wouldn’t with the flat-six soundtrack of a 911SC?

Have an awesome onboard video to share? Drop me a line at or post it in the comments below.

It Sounds Like There's Going To Be Lewis Hamilton Contract Drama All Season
Lewis Hamilton’s contract expired at the end of last season, and the question of will-he-or-won’t-he sign a new one for 2021 was one of the biggest unknowns throughout last year. Hamilton did eventually re-up, but It sounds like 2021 could more or less be a repeat. Now I still...

Rally Sweden Will Stave Off Snowless Death By Moving Up North In 2022
Climate change is killing Rally Sweden. It’s actually been killing the rally for several years now, because death at the hand of global warming is never quick. In organizers’ latest measure to stave off the event’s snowless demise, next year’s running will relocate north by some 500 miles, away...

Daniel Ricciardo Says That Lewis Hamilton 'Isn't The Only One That Could Win Races In That Car,' Calls F1 'Idiots'
Daniel Ricciardo is a good driver and also a bit of a smiling assassin. He’s got smiles but he’s also got takes. Some of those takes are in the latest issue of the British lifestyle magazine Square Mile, which except that he’s a fun interview. Here he is, for...

Haas Has Set Itself The Ambitious Goal Of Maybe Keeping Up With Williams In 2021
The Haas Formula One squad has had a rather inauspicious start to the 2021 season. It didn’t have its chassis updates ready for the first round of the season in Bahrain, so it decided to press on without them, effectively running a low-downforce version of last year’s car with...

Hell Yes It Sounds Like Formula One Is Actually Doing Sprint Qualifying
The current qualifying system in Formula 1 involves three stages in which drivers try to post their best lap times. F1 has said they might change that, or at least trial, . It sounds like it’s all but gotten the green light to do so this season. The experimental...

Formula 1's Also-Rans Are Already Looking Ahead To 2022
The 2021 season started only a little more than a week ago with the Bahrain Grand Prix, though teams that likely won’t be vying for the title — everyone except and Mercedes, that is — sure sound like they wish it was 2022 already. That’s because next year there...
